SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife and the City Council of La Victoria de Acentejo inaugurated this Thursday the first residence for people with intellectual disabilities in the municipality in an act that was attended by the third vice president and island councilor for Social Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Marián Franquet, and by the mayor, Juan Antonio García Abreu.

The residence, which has a capacity for 12 users, has involved an investment of 400,000 euros that have been contributed by the Cabildo de Tenerife through the Insular Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS).

Likewise, the Victoriero City Council paid for the first phase of the work (60,000 euros) and ceded the two disused buildings that were once occupied by the old unitary school in the La Vera neighborhood.

Both annexed buildings, which together have a surface area of 310 square meters, have been fully rehabilitated, unified and transformed to house this assistance resource that seeks “to enable people with intellectual disabilities to advance in their life project, improving their autonomy and investing in for their active inclusion in society,” said the mayor of Victory, Juan Antonio García Abreu.

The Minister of Social Action, Marian Franquet, stressed that “this residence not only improves the quality of life of people with disabilities but also of their families and those around them, who feel calm knowing that they are being given adequate care”.

Along these lines, he added that “this center is one of the 12 socio-sanitary infrastructures that have been promoted in this mandate to respond to the specific needs of the population in the north, south and metropolitan area.”

The first phase of the residence, which had six places, began to function on March 9, 2020, but due to the pandemic it could not be inaugurated then, “so we have waited until the second phase is complete to be able to do so,” clarified the victorious mayor.

The residence comprises a total of six double bedrooms, three living rooms, a kitchen, a dining room, an office, a laundry room and four bathrooms, three of which are adapted.

Access to the enclosure is through its upper level, which guarantees an accessible itinerary to the entire complex, while creating an outdoor recreation space, where there is a large terrace and patio.

CONNECTIVITY OF THE TWO BUILDINGS

Likewise, the problem of connectivity between the two buildings, which are located on different levels, has been resolved, using a covered patio that is located between them as a link, where there is a staircase and a double-boarding elevator that will connect the three heights. and improve accessibility.

In that same ‘hall’ there is an entrance from the street and there is a room for cleaning supplies and a storage room.

The center is managed 24 hours a day by a team of specialized professionals comprising four educational assistants-caregivers and a full-time social worker, as well as the part-time services of a psychologist, a therapist occupational, an entertainer of leisure and free time, a cleaner and a cook.

The cost of the center’s management services 24 hours a day for two years is 667,900 euros, which are 100% subsidized by the Cabildo de Tenerife through the IASS.

Users have a specific schedule of leisure and free time on a daily basis, in addition to that linked to enhancing their autonomy.

In this way, they have, for example, quadrants for the distribution of domestic chores, such as cleaning the facilities or kitchen workshops for preparing their own meals, regardless of whether they have cleaning staff and also supervisors. of preparing food.

All this always keeping in mind that it is a coexistence unit, that is, a home to which all its residents belong and in which, as such, respect for their privacy must always prevail, collects a note from the Cabildo.
