The South leads the reopening of hotels in Tenerife with more than 87%

The reality once again exceeded the forecasts made at the end of August, due to market volatility and uncertainty. From the planned 82% it went to 85%.

In the case of La Gomera and El Hierro, the associated establishments are fully reopened (from the beginning of June) and ended September with a satisfactory occupation, after a summer with high occupations.

Added to that uncertainty due to the influence of the pandemic in the tourism market are the effects of the La Palma volcano eruption and the doubts it generates in tour operators. The associated accommodation facility of said Island, which had been fully open since June, now records the closure of the hotel in Puerto de Naos, a town that has been evacuated in a preventive manner.

Tourist beds.

Regarding the reopening of tourist beds, the south of Tenerife has 89.2% (65,618) in the market; the North, 83.8% (9,618), and the metropolitan area, 91% (2,735). Currently, the Island has 88.6% (77,971) of operative associated beds.

The Palm.

Before the eruption of the volcano, La Palma had an average occupancy of almost 70% with good forecasts for winter. The emergency situation has paralyzed the reserves of the main tour operators, who remain vigilant and make decisions every week. Ashotel has already suggested to the administrations that, when this episode ends, the Island will need a specific plan for economic recovery and tourism promotion in which all efforts must be made by the public and private parties, a demand shared by the economic and social agents. and institutional.

Forecasts.

The scenario caused in the short term by the eruption at La Palma throws uncertainty in the coming weeks to the main issuing markets, attentive to the airspace situation. However, for November, in the rest of the province, especially in Tenerife, the forecasts are good. “We are entering our peak season par excellence, we are well advanced in overcoming the pandemic and our main source markets are open and reducing restrictions on mobility,” explains Ashotel President Jorge Marichal. In this sense, the reopening of another 12 establishments is planned, which would place the total number of operating establishments at 90%.

Without taking your eyes off La Palma, the key lies in continuing to work to accelerate the pace of recovery. “There is a desire to travel and that is showing in the reservations,” says Marichal.
