SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Finance, Budgets and European Affairs of the Government of the Canary Islands will put out to tender within a period of two weeks the construction of the two twin buildings for essential services in Telde and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as announced today Tuesday by the vice president and councilor of the area , Román Rodríguez, during a visit to the site in the Tenerife capital where one of them will be built.

Román Rodríguez, together with the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez; the Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Julio Pérez; and the general director of Patrimony and Contracting of the autonomous Executive, José Julián Isturitz, presented the project in situ to representatives of organizations and groups that will be housed in the building that will be built in La Gallega, in front of IES Las Veredillas.

The vice president highlighted precisely the excellent location chosen, which will allow greater efficiency in the provision of emergency and security services, but also those of other public information to the citizenry. Rodríguez also stressed that the financing of the buildings, which will reach 80 million euros, will be endorsed to the European funds set aside for this specific purpose.

José Manuel Bermúdez, for his part, welcomed the Government’s decision to locate the building in the Southwest district, the fastest growing district in the city, and pointed out that the property will contribute to boosting the entire area.

In the same way, the mayor welcomed the offer made by the Government so that the Cecopal de Santa Cruz can also settle in the building, together with the regional services provided: among them, 1-1-2; the control centers of the security and emergency services (health emergencies, Civil Protection, Fire Brigade, Maritime Rescue or the Canary Islands Police, among others); the information telephone number 012; the cyber center or the social tele-assistance telephones.

Julio Pérez highlighted during his speech that the concentration of essential services in the two buildings -one in Tenerife and the other in Gran Canaria- and the location of both -with fast road connections to the north and south of each island- will allow the emergency and security services work more efficiently. “Proximity also improves teamwork,” said the counselor, who recalled that security is the Government’s first obligation towards citizens.

The buildings, measuring 23,000 square meters each, will be located in Jinámar, in Telde, and in La Gallega, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Its operation will be as a single structure with two locations so that one is a mirror of the other, which will allow its operation in the event of a failure in one of them.

Both buildings are located in accordance with the strategic principle of ensuring optimal accessibility and interconnection with the main road infrastructures of an urban-territorial nature. Likewise, said locations should promote easy interrelation with other essential services, especially those linked to critical areas related to citizen care and protection. Its design has also provided for its ability to deal with exceptional situations of a seismic and vulcanological nature, or those derived from adverse meteorological phenomena.
