The City Council of Santa Cruz and the Mixed Water Company of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Emmasa) are committed to improving the management of wastewater in the area of taganana with different actions, which include the construction of a wastewater treatment plant, within the framework of the ZERO Discharge project.

The Councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, accompanied by the person in charge of the Anaga District, Inmaculada Fuentes, held a meeting with neighbors to explain, in depth, the plan of actions planned in the area. “This is a milestone with respect to the management of the integral water cycle of Santa Cruz, which will respond to a historical demand from residents who, finally, will have their own Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)” , explains the mayor of Public Services.

Specifically, the compendium of works includes the construction of the Taganana WWTP, the Almáciga and Roque de Las Bodegas pumping system, to drive the water to the new WWTP, as well as the installation of pipes and other elements necessary for its operation. optimal for the season. “We have set a period of about 20 months to carry out the works, with a budget of 3,569,565.67 euros,” says Tarife.

The Taganana WWTP, which will be located next to the La Fajaneta ravine, above El Cardonal beach, will have an average treatment capacity of 161.57 m3/day. It will include all the necessary installation to carry out the different stages of wastewater treatment, focused on the reuse of reclaimed water. Pretreatment, biological treatment of activated sludge, tertiary treatment, sludge treatment and deodorization are some of the stages.
