SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Sports area, has closed the eighth edition of ‘Lo Nuestro en tu Centro’ which this year incorporated for the first time at Primary levels, while until the previous year it disseminated local games and sports among students from 1st of ESO, which has allowed the number of participants to triple.
The Island Councilor for Sports, Concepción Rivero, went to CEIP Los Andenes, in Taco, to follow the development of the last day of this activity.
There he stressed that “it has been very important to include Primary school students, since they represent more than 65% of the students who have participated in this edition of the program” and explained that in total they have accounted for “6,100 minors, compared to the 2,000 who registered past year”.
Along these lines, he explained that “Lo Nuestro en tu Centro has allowed these students to learn about and practice native sports and games in their own educational centers, disseminating vernacular activities.”
In addition, he highlighted that “it is essential to preserve traditions, especially among the little ones, since they are the ones who will continue to give them continuity in the future.”
Specifically, Rivero pointed out that “since the program began in October, 56 Early Childhood and Primary Education Centers (CEIP), 21 Secondary Education Institutes (IES) and four Compulsory Education Centers (CEO) have participated.”
In all of them, he said, “we have given theoretical-practical workshops on the modalities of Canarian wrestling, the game of the stick, the Canarian ball, the wrestling of the club or the shepherd’s jump.”
In this way, the counselor made it clear that “the Cabildo has a firm commitment to traditional games and sports, which is evident in the desire to make this project grow, but also in other actions such as the creation of the Insular Fighting School that has been promoting and developing this sport with the little ones since last year, or the subsidy for the promotion and encouragement of these native activities, which in 2022 benefited a total of 28 sports entities”.
The days of ‘Lo Nuestro en tu Centro’ have been developed in schools and, in each of the modalities, they had a theoretical part that is accompanied by an explanatory video, and a practice in which the young people developed the activity .
These workshops have been given by instructors with academic or professional qualifications who have duly accredited experience.
