More than 8,000 square meters. This is the space that Santa Cruz will allocate to the creation of a new park in the capital, one that will be set in the Carnival and that will be located precisely next to the building destined for the chicharrera party par excellence, under the Galcerán bridge. At this point there will be a children’s playground, an area for sports, in addition to everything that an endowment of this type implies, such as benches, green areas, shaded areas, etc. Everything will be decorated with Carnival motifs, with a large allegorical mural of Carnival, which is expected to be occupied by different graffiti, another space in which each year, as a billboard, the corresponding Carnival poster can be hung, but also a chicharro or a clown with which visitors can take photos. In the central area, a large walkway that will serve as a slide, in the center of which there will also be a horse mackerel, a structure that will serve to shade the space.
“We have a technical project, they are not infographics without more, that as soon as it is signed, the work can be tendered and executed. Everything, we hope, this year”, announced the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, in the presentation of the park. An execution that will cost 3.2 million euros and that aims not only to provide the city with a new park, but also to enhance the Carnival and the festival’s own interpretation center, which will be one of the three accesses planned for this circuit on the edge of the Santos ravine.
As confirmed by the councilor, the only thing missing is the favorable report from the Insular Water Council on a specific aspect of the project and that is the reference to the union of the existing dog park to the new space by means of stairs. “They already know the idea and everything seems correct. As soon as we have everything written up, we will pass it on to the Cabildo for its approval”, explained the architect who has designed the new space, José Ángel Afonso, an official from the Infrastructure Area.
“We have a great project next to the Santos ravine that is not being used and that will now be used to value a party like ours, which deserves a themed public space like this one,” defended the mayor, who insisted on that this park follows the path of other themes, such as that of the Gesta.
As the person in charge of the project explained, “it is about giving value to our ravine, in which this space was used for cultivation many years ago, with various orchards. We took advantage of that structure and made a circuit with which we intend to improve connectivity with the city”. And it is that this new space aims to encourage mobility and pedestrian traffic from the Tome Cano area and the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, towards the commercial and center of Santa Cruz, La Noria street, etc., precisely through the natural environment offered by the ravine.
improvements
At the same time, it will allow the improvement of the pavements and coverings that are in an advanced state of deterioration, and the creation of a new direct access, by means of stairs from La Salle avenue, allowing a more direct and safe access to the park.
Finally, the existing wall and terrace structures will be used and enhanced, in addition to improving communication to generate a more accessible urban space between the various platforms of the park and will entail.
Likewise, new green areas will be built to enhance the natural environment, which will allow the creation of new shaded spaces that invite you to stay and enjoy this place, which has a unique value.
A circuit that in the future will reach the Viera y Clavijo Park
Hand in hand with the new park, it will be used to improve the area’s facilities. Thus, lighting will be placed in the space, which is expected to invite its use safely during night hours, while the Galcerán bridge is provided with a decorative LED lighting system, creating a focus of attraction and enhancing the use and enjoyment of the surroundings of the Santos ravine. As the architect responsible for the project advanced, it is also intended, in the future, to extend the circuit to the surroundings of the Viera y Clavijo Cultural Park, thus promoting the use of the surroundings of the Santos ravine by residents and visitors.
