The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Mobility area, has enabled the bus lane that connects Las Chumberas with the Padre Anchieta interchange, both in La Laguna, so that it can be used by taxi drivers. The First Vice President and Island Councilor for Mobility, Enrique Arriaga, explained that “from the Cabildo we have been managing the administrative procedures and reports necessary for authorization for some time.”

In this regard, he argued that “with this alternative to the TF-5, taxis will be able to reduce their travel times and provide a better service to users, especially when there are traffic jams. In this way, we will continue promoting the use of public transport as an alternative to private vehicles”.

Arriaga added that “the intention is also to implement taxi access in the second phase of this bus lane, which will connect the University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) and Las Chumberas”.

For his part, the insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, pointed out that, “in this way, taxis will be able to leave the TF-5 at the height of Las Chumberas and will access the Padre Anchieta roundabout, in La Laguna, avoiding the queues at those times when the TF-5 gets stuck in traffic”.

León highlighted the determined commitment made by the Cabildo to public transport, be it with buses or taxis, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and preventing the further increase in the number of trips by private vehicles that generate the traffic jams.

Meanwhile, the president of Radio Taxi La Laguna, Francisco González, indicated that “for taxi drivers this means avoiding traffic and, therefore, saving time and money, and, above all, offering a better service to customers” . During the night from Tuesday to yesterday, it was when the changes in the signs that indicate this new access were carried out.

It should be remembered that the La Laguna City Council had requested the Cabildo Highway Area, in September of last year, that the taxi sector could make use of said bus lane, based on a demand from the municipality’s own group.
