SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has announced that the completion of the sanitation improvement works in the center of Playa Jardín, in the municipality of Adeje, is scheduled for the month of July.

Pedro Martín and the mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, have visited the works, together with the Minister of Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Zebenzuí Chinea, to find out the status of the action that has had an investment of 1,983,413 euros. The Cabildo has contributed 80% of the financing (1,398,144 euros) and the City Council the remaining 20% (585,268 euros).

During the visit, the island president stated that the works are advancing on schedule and added that if the forecasts are maintained in three or four months they will come to an end.

The project has focused on the renovation of the pumping stations in the area, Playa Paraíso 1 and 2, as well as the construction of a new system to transport the water to the Arona-Adeje regional treatment plant, where it is treated the southern waters of the island.

“The construction of the new pipelines to transport the water has already been 100% completed. It remains to conclude the improvement works that are being carried out in the pumping stations, at this moment at 80% execution,” he explained.

Martín valued the importance of this action: “After decades it was necessary to improve these facilities and provide them with new modern and efficient equipment.” For the insular president, “this intervention contributes to solving one of the historical problems in the municipality, such as sanitation.” “It will also be an asset for agriculture, by allowing the use of treated water for agricultural use,” he stressed.

The mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, thanked the Cabildo for its collaboration in carrying out this project: “We were working with an outdated system and now we will have a more efficient and modern one. This action complements a great project, which we call originally Aguas Azules, to eradicate water discharges in Adeje. With these works we take a big step in the western part of the municipality”.

For his part, the counselor Zebenzuí Chinea stressed that this enclave of the municipality is in full expansion and development and needed to have optimal services for both the local population and visitors. The island official clarified that the works are included in the 2018-2021 Municipal Cooperation Plan, and emphasized the ambition of the intervention carried out, “in which a new conduction system for wastewater has been built, to thus guaranteeing its impulsion and transport to the regional system, in a sustainable manner”, he emphasized.
