The Cabildo de Tenerife has proposed to the University of La Laguna (ULL) that the faculties that can delay the start of their classes at 10:00 a.m., as a measure to help decongest traffic on the TF-5, as confirmed by the island president , Pedro Martín, who explained that, “in a supplementary way, we are willing to put a contribution of ten million a year to distribute among those faculties that manage or can cut until 10:00 a.m., to start at a time when the problems in the highway are less than first thing in the morning.

As he pointed out, the agreement could be for two years, so the total amount would rise to 20 million, which would be given “in an extra way, without withdrawing the aid that we are already giving” to the University.

Pedro Martín emphasized that this proposal is not intended to “blame the University for the problem” for the traffic jams on the TF-5, nor is it the definitive solution to the problem, but it is an additional measure that can help ease traffic early in the morning. tomorrow. “If we could get it across a significant number of schools, I think we could help alleviate the TF-5 problem,” he insisted.

“Logically,” he added, “as long as the faculties can do it, because there will be those who cannot, and it is not necessary for a faculty to change all the classes, maybe it is only one or two or three courses, that would be enough for us.” ”.

The insular president indicated that “we are considering it now because we already have a project for a new section of motorway, we finally see a solution, and because we have to plan the schedules for the next academic year and this is the moment to do it. If I can raise and analyze it and say that the Cabildo, in a situation in which the University is also going through economic difficulties, is also willing to collaborate”. “The Cabildo de Tenerife collaborates very often with the University of La Laguna, we have historically been by their side”, he valued.

From Guamasa to Lora and Tamayo

Likewise, the island president pointed out that, in addition, to this proposal it is added that “probably in the month of June the work from Guamasa to Lora and Tamayo will go out to tender that will avoid the traffic jams that we are having right now in the TF -5”.

Meanwhile, from the ULL they reported yesterday that the acting rector, Néstor Torres, informed, in the Governing Council, the deans and directors of centers of said request from the Cabildo to delay the start of classes. The proposal was already unsuccessful in the past term, under the presidency of Carlos Alonso (CC), although this time it is linked to this additional financing of ten million a year.
