During this morning we proceeded to remove the hood of the tower of the church of san francisco, in Santa Cruz, given the risk that the structure would give way and could end up falling. The Santa Cruz City Council had already proceeded, at the beginning of the month, to cordon off the Plaza de San Francisco by the falling debris from the belfry, avoiding the pedestrian crossing in that part of the square.
As confirmed to DIARIO DE AVISOS the Councilor for Urbanism, Carlos Tarife, at that time, “the Management technicians have verified that the structure that supports the hood is not in good condition, that is why we have decided to cordon off part of the square as a precaution, so that the restaurants in the area do not they will be able to have the tables in that part of the public space ”.
The Government of the Canary Islands, which is carrying out reform works in the adjoining building, headquarters of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, has taken over the repair of the tower as well as the removal of the bell that was carried out this morning, and which had been postponed due to the need for a large crane to support the weight of the hood. Once the structure has been repaired, it will be returned to its original location, in addition to lifting the seal of the square once the corresponding networks have been installed.
