With the Municipal Market La Estación, in Tacoronte, the popular saying that advises “never start the house on the roof”, becomes the only option to achieve the objective that is to be achieved, which is none other than to get people out of oblivion. an installation that has been forgotten for years by the different municipal corporations.
Finally, after much battling and insisting, the merchants will be able to see one of their main demands satisfied: the repair of the roof, a fundamental work to put an end to leaks, infiltrations due to humidity and that gruesome image offered by collecting water from rain in buckets every time it rains and that demonstrates the carelessness that has been had with this infrastructure, despite the fact that this reality has caused damage to equipment and facilities.
The government group will start next week an action that reaches 170,000 euros and that involves repairing the roof. It entails milling and cleaning, the replacement of two PVC roofs -specifically, those that cover the parking ramp and the main entrance of the building- and the cleaning of all the plaster plates that are inside, specifies the Councilor for Works and Services, José Antonio Gil Goya.
“We have to start here to be able to have an interesting project on the market and that, if we don’t first fix the roofs, we can do little”, he declares.
Technical report
The previous technical report carried out recognizes the damage caused as a result of the use of the facilities and the leaks that occur on the fifth floor of the building, but which also affect the premises on the fourth floor.
The works are expected to be ready in approximately one month. In this sense, the mayor points out that “we had to find the right time to carry them out, since it rained a lot in the autumn and winter months and that would have made some works difficult, which, if they are not completed correctly, ends up being worse than the remedy.” disease”.
A relaunch plan
Once the roof has been cleaned, the appropriate treatments will be applied to prevent leaks and humidity from occurring again, Goya clarifies. And, from that moment, it will be possible to plan and design a plan to relaunch this commercial space, located in the heart of the municipality, and in which the municipal Executive already works. A facility that is public and for which merchants pay rent to the City Council. That is why they have been demanding an answer to their problems for more than a decade and complaining about the absence of solutions to their shortcomings because, in addition, they affect their work.
In this sense, half of the premises (about 12) have been empty for a long time, perhaps due to the lack of incentives on the part of the Administration to offer them a space in optimal conditions and, therefore, guarantees for their business to function.
This reality also makes the venue less attractive, which, despite this, offers some advantages to consumers, such as having free parking, and which, in its current conditions, has hosted various events organized by the City Council, such as the wine festival, a Halloween or, more recently, the Regala con amor concerts, on the 14th of February.
“The maintenance and cleaning of the bathrooms and common areas are the responsibility of the concessionaire of the supermarket store that is located on the first floor of the building, although in specific matters it has the support of the City Council,” stressed the mayor.
