The mayor of Santa Cruz of TenerifeJosé Manuel Bermúdez, accompanied by the Councilor for Works and Infrastructures, Dámaso Arteaga, and the architect, Alejandro Beautell García, presented today the preliminary project for the layout of a coastal path that borders the palmetum to the east and to the south, connecting Avenida de la Constitución with the Parque Marítimo beach, “and which aims to recover the desired connection between the sea and the city, incorporating a new leisure option in the capital”, predicts the mayor.

Bermúdez valued “requalifying the existing promenade by providing it with a band of basic equipment, as well as shaded leisure and rest areas that will accompany the route and that will allow its users to enjoy the promenade, carry out physical, sports, and restaurant activities, etc.”, and added “we already have a verbal agreement with the Port Authority and what we need is the signing of the land transfer agreement to immediately continue with the administrative process to culminate with the execution of the project.”

In this presentation, the architect responsible for the preliminary project, Alejandro Beautell García, also took the floor, where he detailed the main lines of the preliminary project “as a project strategy, the area has been divided into three sectors, which coincide with the sections that are generated according to the different orientations of the promenade, in this way the project can be executed in phases according to the needs that arise”.

For his part, Dámaso Arteaga added that “today is an important day because the preliminary project is presented, from here, the roadmap that the City Council has is the signing of the agreement with the Port Authority, the drafting and final approval of the project , take out the tender to, later, execute it”.

The councilor responsible for the Salud-La Salle district, Carlos Tarife wanted to recall “that thanks to a neighbor, who is in this room today, he asked us for an urban report on January 5, 2021 and it is possible thanks to the fact that there has been a very well in the Port-City commission”.

The projected works would consist of a construction forming part of a light and modular system that has a 1x1m mesh as a geometric base, which relates the scale of the project to the size of the concrete cubes that form the existing breakwater. The modules that would house the different equipment would be self-supporting and would be closed with ribbed metal plates, taking as a reference the containers so present in the landscape of the seafront of the capital.

To this end, the drafting team has contemplated at a constructive level, a modular wooden structure as a pergola is proposed, with pillars arranged in a 5.00 x 6.00 m mesh. Each vertical element will be made up of four 3.20 m high 10 x 10 cm wooden pillars that will rest on a 30 x 30 cm square concrete base.

The structure would be continuous in each of the three sections, maintaining separations of at least 50 meters between them and alternating spaces with planting vegetation. The roof of this strip of equipment can be completely closed (photovoltaic panels will be placed on these areas that will allow the electrical self-consumption of the installation), semi-closed with a lattice of wooden slats to provide shade for the terrace areas, or completely open. in the play areas and gardens.

The platform where the equipment modules are arranged would be slightly elevated above the level of the promenade, enhancing the impressive existing views and establishing a separation by uses. There will be a series of gently sloping ramps to guarantee the universal accessibility of the platform.
