The premiere of the new treatment plant minimizes discharges from the coast

The commissioning of the new wastewater treatment plant in the lower area of San Miguel de Abona, with the capacity to treat the sewage of 20,000 inhabitants, provides a solution to the problem of discharges into the sea in the coastal area of the municipality. This was highlighted yesterday by the Cabildo de Tenerife, the main financier of this plant, in a statement. The new treatment plant has been located next to the Amarilla Golf water treatment station with the aim of connecting both facilities, to improve the operation of the municipal treatment infrastructure and thus optimize these services in the area.

The completed action is part of the 2018-2021 Municipal Cooperation Plan of the Island Corporation and has involved a significant public investment of 2.2 million euros, of which the Cabildo contributes 80% and the San Miguel City Council, 20%. remaining. The new facility has a capacity to treat an average flow of 1,075 cubic meters per day.

Pedro Martín, president of the Tenerife Cabildo, explained that “the action was necessary in what is being done by the Montaña Reverón regional water treatment plant.” “Until the regional system for sanitation, purification, reuse and discharge of water from the Arona Este-San Miguel Region is executed and comes into operation, this new treatment plant will allow the situation of water treatment to be improved and thus curb the problems of discharges”, emphasized Martín, who added that said infrastructures will allow the purification system to be legalized in the nuclei of the lower part of Las Chafiras, Las Cabezadas, El Guincho, Amarilla Golf, Golf del Sur and San Blas.

The mayor of San Miguel de Abona, Arturo gonzalezwas “satisfied” with the completion of this infrastructure that in his opinion is “essential for the lower area of the municipality”. “The start-up of this treatment plant helps solve the treatment of wastewater not only in Amarilla Golf, but also in part of Golf del Sur and Las Chafiras,” he highlighted.
