SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Natural Environment and Security Management Area, has taken into account the steps to follow established by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) to create and develop the Tenerife ON application and its inclusive website.
The color contrast, the writing format, menus or tools, as well as the way of writing to facilitate the work of apps for blind people, such as screen readers, are some of the aspects that Tenerife ON has modified to adjust to the needs of a wider range of people.
“The Tenerife ON platform is an innovative and highly useful tool for programming free time leisure. In its construction and start-up, the Cabildo has made a great coordination effort in which many cross-cutting areas are involved, from Tourism to Social Action, going through the areas of Sustainability and Forest Planning services”, pointed out the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín.
The island president has indicated that the implementation of accessibility factors is an example of this: “Efforts have been made to make the application inclusive and, in addition, information on those accessible trails has been included in it, so that any person with functional diversity can access them knowing in advance what you are going to find”.
In this sense, Pedro Martín indicated that the work of the Island Institution is amplified with the Tenerife Accessibility Map, another tool that has “analyzed an urban area of more than 1,900 hectares and 661 kilometers of pedestrian routes, a work developed by the areas of the Presidency, Finance and Modernization and Social Action and Sinpromi, and which is a basic instrument for the management and planning of projects to improve accessibility throughout the island”.
Tenerife ON is a web and mobile platform of the Cabildo, updated and free that offers a tool to move safely in the natural environment. This tool includes some 700 kilometers of trails, around 180 kilometers of forest tracks, 18 routes for bicycles and horses, 26 routes for motor vehicles, more than 20 recreational areas, 14 camping areas, 3 campsites and 26 rest areas.
In addition, the platform is also prepared to show the level of accessibility of the trails and equipment. Some examples are those of Aguagarcía (Las Lagunetas), Monte del Agua (Teno Rural Park) or Botanical Garden (Teide National Park), which are fully accessible for people with reduced mobility. Other routes such as the Sendero de los Sentidos (Anaga Rural Park) or the Caramujo (Teide National Park) have the label of partial accessibility.
Tenerife ON also indicates which recreational areas, such as El Lagar (Parque Natural de la Corona Forestal) or viewpoints, such as the Red de Miradores del Parque Nacional are partially accessible. In this same category, it includes various visitor centers such as Cruz del Carmen in Anaga, Telesforo Bravo (La Orotava), or the Bolico Hostel.
With these adaptations, the updated and official platform of the Cabildo de Tenerife is consolidated as an inclusive tool, which offers rigorous information so that citizens can fully enjoy leisure in nature safely.
