La Laguna City Council has approved the definitive project for the channeling of the Carnicería ravine, an action that represents the beginning of the process so that the municipal market can return to its old location in the Plaza del Adelantadosaid the mayor of the city, Luis Yeray Gutierrez.
The project for the channeling of the Carnicería ravine will entail an investment of 14.24 million euros, indicated in a statement in which the mayor indicated that the municipal contracting services are preparing the specifications so that the works can go out to tender “in the shortest possible time”, so that the intervention can be contracted and begin to be executed during the course of this year.
Luis Yeray Gutiérrez has added that the collaboration between administrations will be key to be able to carry out a hydraulic work of this magnitude, which will be definitive when it comes to addressing, “finally, the new market project”.
The City Council of La Laguna proposed in 2020 a new route for the channeling of the La Carnicería ravine which, although it implies a development with a greater route, avoided the effects on other properties and the expropriations to which the previous project forced, said the mayor .
Faced with this situation, the current local corporation commissioned a modification of the basic project and, later, the drafting of the corresponding execution project to be able to execute the works of the new channeling.
In July 2021, the local government board approved the contracting file for the construction management and construction project ‘Canalization of the Barranco de la Carnicería in the Gonzaliánez section, between Camino El Roque and the Palace of Justice’, which has now been approved for bidding.
The channeling work has a “considerable technical complexity”, due to the nature of the terrain, which requires special foundations and piling, to which must be added the consolidation tasks of the slope of the ravine.
This action is intended to give continuity to the works carried out on the channeling section located behind the Palace of Justice, and there will be a section capable of housing the flow associated with a return period of 500 years, according to the local corporation.
The pipeline execution project, which at the end of January received favorable reports from the Hydraulic Infrastructure and Hydraulic Resources departments of the Tenerife Island Water Council (CIATF), defines the details of the new channeling, the modification of which was necessary, since that currently the ravine runs below the plot where the future Market will be built.
The design of the facility will be accompanied by an underground car park and a new plaza.
