The Council of Tenerife will invest this year 250,000 euros in the promotion of agri-food products and 150,000 euros in direct aid to promote the decarbonisation of the wine sector, traceability controls and the modernization of farms.

The insular Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, has announced after the meeting of the Island Wine Tablethat direct aid will be aimed at controlling the vintage traceability of the island’s wines and advice for the implementation of the digital notebook.

They will also be allocated to the inclusion and calculation of energy and nutritional value on the labelas well as to carbon footprint calculation and certificationwhich will soon be mandatory for producers with economic activity.

With regard to promotion, Javier Parrilla stresses the importance of continuing to publicize the wealth and wine singularity of each of the six denominations of origin that operate on the island.

“Since the beginning of our mandate, we have made it a priority to guarantee stability to the island’s wine sector and we will continue to be firmly committed to the marketing of our wines,” says the counselor, who likewise intends to start the defense of the island’s wine-growing areas, anticipating that he will soon present a proposal in this regard.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Canarian Institute of Food Quality (ICCA), Basilio Perez; the head of the technical service Agrifood Quality and Valorization of the Cabildo, Antonio Bentabol; and the person in charge of Oenology Unit of the CabildoMaría Hontoria, as well as representatives of the different denominations of origin that operate on the island.

The Insular Wine Table also agreed to launch a campaign to disseminate among consumers that only information on the back label in a bottle of wine guarantees the origin of the grape. “It’s about letting consumers know differentiate the wines of Tenerife from others that, although they may appear to be of local origin, are made with imported wines and without any contribution to the local primary sector”, highlights the councilor. with this guarantee.
