El Rosario projects a photovoltaic plant due to the rise in electricity

Yesterday, the El Rosario City Council held an extraordinary plenary session in which a budget modification of 140,000 euros was approved, which will go towards initiating the file for the purchase, through a public offer, of land in the upper area of the municipality for the installation of a photovoltaic plant that allows reversing the electrical energy produced by the elevation system of the La Cañada water well, reducing the costs of extracting water.

The mayor, Escolástico Gil, explained that this initiative “is one more of those that we are developing in terms of energy savings because the rise in electricity prices is being ruinous, not only for families, but also for administrations ». In this sense, Gil explained that “to give you an idea, we are paying 67,000 euros per month just for the electricity consumption of the La Cañada well and With this photovoltaic plant we would have zero cost and the investment would be amortized in four months». The point went ahead with the favorable vote of the local government (9) and the abstention of the opposition councilors present (4).

The Councilor for Ecological Transition, Fidel Vázquez, also advanced the request for a grant to the Government of the Canary Islands, within the new line of aid that the regional Executive has opened to promote energy efficiency, for the execution of this self-consumption photovoltaic plant, which would have a total power of 1 or 1.5 megawatts. “It is an urgent need so that the economy of the City Council is not in danger,” he explained.

«The water wells are the municipal dependencies that have the highest consumption, which in recent years have only increased due to the significant rise in electricity costs»explained Vázquez, who also warned that “last year they were paying 0.9 or 0.12 euros per kilowatt and now the average is around 0.47 euros, a situation that, in the long term, is unsustainable ».

The initial approval of the modification of the municipal staff for 2023 also went ahead. The mayor of Human Resources, Juan Jesús del Rosario, reported that with this modification four new positions will be created.
