SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Sí Podemos Canarias Parliamentary Group has presented an amendment to the proposal to reform the Regulation promoted by the Chamber to avoid situations such as the one that occurred at the beginning of the X Legislature, when a “strictly literal interpretation” of the norm prevented a woman from presiding over the Bureau of Parliament as three more women belong to it.

This has been confirmed by the president of the Parliamentary Group, María del Río, by assuring that Sí Podemos Canarias presents a text “that allows a more open interpretation of the norm, that guarantees parity in the representation of women and men, so that in In the case of women, 50 percent is the minimum, and not the current 40 percent”.

“We go one step further, including the possibility of applying positive action in organizations in which women have historically been underrepresented, since in our new text a balanced presence between women and men is understood to be that in which, overall, that it refers, the number of women is not less than fifty percent, understanding this percentage as a minimum”, insisted the president of the Parliamentary Group.

In this way, Del Río defends that in bodies such as the Board of Parliament, “historically constituted and presided over by men”, “positive action” could be applied until “this, as in other bodies of the Chamber, reaches the effective equality”.

This modification proposed by Sí Podemos Canarias arises as a result of the constitution of the Parliamentary Table in this X Legislature, when it was interpreted that the norm prevents there being more than three women in a body of five positions, which made it impossible for the PSOE to maintain the Teresa Cruz Oval’s proposal as president of the Board, since Esther González (NC), Rosa Dávila (CC) and Luz Reverón (PP) were already proposed as members of the Board, finally opting for the candidacy of Gustavo Matos.

With this amendment, which aims to correct this situation, Sí Podemos Canarias believes that the Eleventh Final Provision “improves effective equality” in the regional Chamber.

For Del Río, this is one of the many initiatives that Sí Podemos Canarias has promoted and defended throughout the legislature in the regional Chamber, in this case against glass ceilings, in favor of effective equality between women and men.

VIOLET LOOK

“During this legislature that is now ending, we can affirm emphatically and proudly that all the proposals, agreed measures and appearances that Sí Podemos Canarias has brought to Parliament have been made with a gender perspective and with a violet gaze that has permeated it transversally. everything,” Del Rio said.

Thus, the president of the Parliamentary Group wanted to recall that both in the laws and in the non-legislative initiatives presented and approved, the gender perspective has always been present, with special attention to the most vulnerable women, victims of different types of sexist, sexual, gender, psychological and economic, demanding, among others, state legislation against trafficking and sexual exploitation that, together with the abolition of prostitution, guarantees public policies that allow victims to achieve labor and social reinsertion that allow them lives worthy of be lived

“We have always contributed a gender perspective and perspective in each step and each action carried out in the regional Chamber, remembering the rights of women in all areas, from health to socio-labour, through housing,” he said. .

With regard to public health, it has been defended that the right to voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVE) can be exercised in the public hospitals of each one of the islands, supporting the denunciation of the feminist movement of Lanzarote, demanding that patients stop be referred to private clinics in the capital’s islands, and that the IVE be performed at the Molina Orosa public hospital, if applicable.

Also from the rostrum, the right to quality mental health has been defended, with adequate psychological treatments, not based exclusively on psychopharmaceuticals, the right to non-discrimination for aesthetic reasons, denouncing fatphobia, and the dangers of some diets, disorders of eating behavior or suicides related to this problem, and calling for an increase in Psychology professionals in Primary Care, in all Health centers.

The people who represent Sí Podemos Canarias in the regional Chamber have also referred to the right to equality in the workplace, denouncing the wage gap and feminized, precarious jobs, which on so many occasions are responsible for the feminization of poverty, or the basic right to housing, especially for women with minors in their care, guaranteeing that they cannot be evicted without a housing alternative.

“Breaking the glass ceiling for women is very important, but it is no less important to guarantee the rights of women who, trapped on sticky floors, have to pick up the broken glass,” Del Río concluded.
