SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has defended today Tuesday the “absolute” collaboration and transparency that the Canary Islands Government is having with respect to the investigation of the so-called ‘Mediator case’ and has advanced that next Tuesday the Executive itself will appear in a extraordinary plenary session in the Parliament of the Canary Islands to explain what is being done regarding this case and to find out the assessments of all the groups.
In statements to the media, Ángel Víctor Torres has stressed that among the twelve people who are being investigated for this alleged corruption plot there is no member of the Government, so “we must respond to the Justice by collaborating with it” and not politicize this issue. “Whoever tries to judicialize politics is wrong,” he remarked.
Torres reiterated his message that “whoever has to fall falls” for this plot and warned that if someone “has committed any illegal act, they have no coverage or space in the current Government of the Canary Islands.” He also announced that the PSOE has already appeared as a public prosecution and himself, individually, before the statements – “later modulated” – by Marco Antonio Navarro Tacoronte, the alleged ‘achiever’ of this plot.
Asked if an internal reformulation is necessary within the Socialist Party on how certain posts are chosen, Ángel Víctor Torres made it clear that “no institution, body, force or security body can be held responsible for an appointment that a person can corrupt. Therefore, it is necessary to point them out only when they do not make decisions”.
In this regard, he recalled that the PSOE and the Government of the Canary Islands made immediate decisions with the dismissal of Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo and the then General Director of Livestock, Taishet Fuentes. “There are those who want to teach the PSOE lessons and what we are asking them is to do the same, that when there is a case of corruption, they expel it as the Socialist Party has always done. We do not protect corruption, they are others,” he asserted.
