The Cabildo rejects a commission to investigate the “Mediator case”

The Council of Tenerife refuses to create a committee of inquiry on the so-called Mediator case. The spokesperson for Yes We Can Canary Islands, David Carballo, proposed to the rest of the groups to investigate whether there were irregularities in the island corporation related to the alleged corruption plot during the State of the Island Debate, but none seconded the proposal. This occurs one day after the separate piece opened by the magistrate of Court Number 4 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife María de los Ángeles de Lorenzo-Cáceres Farizo was revealed to investigate a possible case of corruption in the management of the former island director of Sports, Angel Perez. The measure was adopted by the judge as a result of a Whatsapp message sent by Pérez Peña to the mediator of the plot, Antonio Navarro Tacoronte. The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, explained that an internal investigation had already been carried out without detecting anything illegal, although “we will review all the documents again.” In this regard, he assessed: «Imagine if we are calm that we have provided all the documentation that the opposition has requested. He has asked us for more and we are going to give it to him.

The intention of Carballo, who launched his idea in voce on the air, was to promote this initiative with the intention of “determining possible responsibilities at the island level” in relation to this alleged corruption plot. The purple group only has two directors after the departure of María José Belda, and cannot request it, according to the regulations. He did not get any response, although throughout the plenary he planned the shadow of the so-called Mediator case.

Almost four hours after the session began, the Mediator case finally appeared in a concrete way. First with Carballo’s offer if he consults with no other group. Then with the intervention of the spokesperson for the Popular Party Zaida gonzalez who turned the allusions to the alleged corruption plot about a president of the Cabildo who is “with his back to the reality that Tenerife society lives.”

González questioned him about whether he had really filed the complaint that he announced against the mediator. He also wondered since when he knew what was happening and why he did not stop before he resigned the insular director of Sports, Ángel Pérez. He reproached him for receiving Marco Antonio Navarro Tacoronte “so easily” when “it is so difficult for him to receive members of works councils in labor disputes as those of Metropolitano.”

In his response, the president of the Cabildo told González that “you would have criticized me the same way if I had dismissed you with the opposite argument.” He added: “I am not going to enter into speculation but the former director after this man’s complaint decided to step aside.”

He recalled that “we have investigated and we have not found anything. No adjudication, specifications or contract that has intervened. He assessed: «No one has come here to investigate nor has anything been asked of us. There is no investigation or anyone accused in the Cabildo ». He explained: «I met with that man like with so many others, just like him with a lot of people; He kept giving me negative messages about Mr. Ángel Pérez. That he did not trust me ». And he sentenced to conclude: “If the slightest indication is found, we will act with the same forcefulness as in other cases. I will be the first to go to court if that happens.”

With Zaida González, the president of the Cabildo had another couple of verbal clashes in the discussion about the transfer of users of the Febles Campos, the management of the Hogar Santa Rita or, again, the strike on the tram.

Curiously, the least belligerent of the opposition spokesmen – logically, the groups that make up the government group endorsed Pedro Martín’s argument – was Carlos Alonso.

His group has requested an extraordinary plenary session to request explanations from Martín, but yesterday it was contained. She starred in the third moment of the day that had the alleged plot as the center.

In his speech he went into the rag on this matter when referring to the fact that “the investment planning of the Cabildo, agreed with all the town halls, which promoted equity and the distribution of funds, has been suppressed”, and “it has been replaced by a sectarian vision , favoring investments in the municipalities where the Socialist Party governs, with aid consigned by hand and marginalizing others who annoy the Cabildo ». He added: “It has been replaced by the slogan that we are going to burst the municipality that does not dance the water for us.” It was explained: “Allow me to use these words that I have heard in these sad days for the policy in the islands”. It refers to a phrase supposedly pronounced by the mediator, Antonio Navarro Tacoronte.

Alonso reflected to conclude: “The unfortunate thing is that no one is surprised to hear those words, they are given as normal because it seems that it is normal that if the Cabildo is governed by the PSOE, the municipalities of another political color must seek their lives.” Pedro Martín responded with a sentence: “You have made a mistake this time.”

There will be new chapters in the Mediator case and its relationship with the Cabildo de Tenerife. The next one, if nothing unexpected happens before, is scheduled for next March 15 with the holding of an extraordinary monographic plenary session at the request of Canarian Coalition.
