The Gomeran spokesman predicts “surprises” with the electoral result of 28-M for the foreign vote
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, March 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The spokesman for Agrupación Socialista Gomera (ASG), Casimiro Curbelo, has separated this Wednesday the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, from the ‘Mediator case’ stressing that “he has the respect and consideration of society, he does not have any doubt no one.”
On the second day of the ‘Debate on the State of Nationality’, he pointed out that he is a “hard-working, humble, noble, honorable and respectable” person, something that even opposition groups “share”.
He has pointed out that the “maximum measures” have been adopted in this case, even though many formations “want” to “transmit messages in the run-up to the campaign” and have wanted to turn the debate into a “settling of political scores”.
Curbelo has pointed out that this Government leaves “a better Canary Islands in the most difficult moments of democracy”, with better social and economic indicators and laws that prepare the archipelago for the future.
He has commented that poverty in the last Legislature was almost the same as in the current one, with more than 800,000 people, but he has warned that the key is to “change the economic model” but without underestimating tourism, which is the “engine “of the archipelago.
It has also indicated that public services consume almost 80% of the annual budget of the autonomous community “and it does not give”, to the point that if the population continues to increase there is a risk that the services cannot be covered.
Curbelo, who is also president of the Cabildo de La Gomera, has described as “extraordinary” the work of the Government in these four years because it is “sensitive” with those who need it most, at the same time that he has predicted a “big surprise” on the 28th of May, because there are more voters in America than in the ‘green islands’.
In his opinion, “enough votes are going to arrive” to change the political reality in La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, so he does not rule out the inclusion of an external constituency in the electoral system.
He has highlighted the stability of the ‘Pact of Flowers’ when no one was betting on the Executive and has thanked the president, the rest of the Government and all the administrations, for their effort to maintain the Canary Islands despite adversities.
He has appreciated the “transformative approach” of the Government and that more than 4% of GDP has recovered last year, but has insisted on changing the economic model to face the “structural problem” of poverty.
Curbelo has criticized “the culture” that any tourist who arrives in the Canary Islands “is a danger to the sustainability” of the islands, but he has demanded “comprehensive planning” to coordinate economic activities with the environment.
REJECTS THE MORATORIUM AND THE ECOTAX
For this reason, he has opposed a tourist moratorium and an eco-tax even though Sí Podemos, a government partner, proposes it, and has called for less bureaucracy and reform of the administration.
He has warned that an “economic cooling” is coming and public administrations will lose revenue, although he does not know “how long it will last”, for which reason he has asked the Government to prepare for that scenario.
Curbelo has censured that 25 years later it is decided that the port of Fonsalía is not built and the alternative to the “collapse” in Los Cristianos is not resolved and has asked to continue working on decarbonization. “It cannot be waived but more actions are needed,” he pointed out.
He has asked the political parties for more professionalization and “to end quotas”, he has presented himself as someone “loyal” in the Government and has announced for the next Legislature the presentation of a law that reduces personal income tax on the green islands.
The ASG spokesman took advantage of his speech to promote the electoral agreement with the Electoral Association for El Hierro based on the fact that the people of El Hierro understand that the people of La Gomera have done “well” since ASG emerged.
For Curbelo, it is a “magnificent opportunity” for them to join a “true project.”
