By Francisco Remedios Acosta. | In the upper part of Güímar, between the Badajoz and Agua ravines, is the San Juan neighborhood, that yesterday, February 27, turned 523 years old. Given its historical-architectural and religious importance, the neighborhood of San Juan is considered the place where the current city of Guimar.

Among the historical figures, Luis Tomás Baulén de Ponte y Fonseca stands out, who, despite being a native of La Laguna, lived for long periods in Güímar as lord of the Heredamiento de San Juan. In addition, he was a clergyman Subdeacon and is known as the founder of the current hermitage of San Juan, where his mortal remains rest.

Likewise, the brothers Juan Felipe and Blasino Plombino promoted the agricultural development of the Güímar Valley, fostering its wealth, which gradually led to the formation of an urban nucleus in the highlands of the Valley.

Therefore, the brothers can be considered the true pioneers of Güímar in what is now the San Juan neighborhood, which has had that name since 1870.
