And the end of the Santa Cruz Carnival 2023. After two years of pandemic, with a virtual Carnival and another in summer, this year’s has recovered the essence of the chicharrera party par excellence, and it has done it in style. The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, believes that 2023 has been the best in the last 15 years. The more than 800,000 people who have participated in the 10 days of Carnival in the street endorse this statement. Carnival will return to the streets on February 9, 2024. There are 348 days left for that to happen.

Yesterday, Sunday, on the last day, it was time to enjoy the classics, and not just the cars that, during the morning, captured all eyes in the García Sanabria park. In the Plaza del Príncipe, the Nifú-Nifá Afilarmónica offered its traditional performance on Piñata Sundays, in which they also presented their gold and silver Clowns and the Roberto Carrillo Trophy, which went to Alexis Hernández, Zenaido Hernández, and Ulises node respectively. Then it was the turn of the Agrupación Lírica La Zarzuela from the Círculo de Amistad XII de Enero.

During the afternoon the end of the festivities took place with the performance of various groups in the Círculo de Amistad XII de Enero. There, the Councilor for Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, expressed his satisfaction to DIARIO DE AVISOS for what has been his first full Carnival as head of Fiestas.

“Without a doubt the expectations we had are confirmed, and they are even exceeded, that we had set ourselves the goal of having a Carnival of maximums, in which people were very eager, as we have seen since the first of the contests, with phases, adult murgas , troupes, or galas, and the maximum expectation that they aroused with sold-out tickets and a high turnout. To this we must add that, since we started with the street, it has also been a true success in attendance”.

The mayor also wanted to highlight the low level of incidents during the Carnival of Santa Cruz, “something that we have been monitoring in great detail.”

On the tourist side, he points out that “it has also been a record-breaking carnival”. , and from there we are making a balance with the consumption that we expect to have in the coming days”.

Preparation of the Carnival of Santa Cruz 2024

From now on “we are with the corner of our eyes on the Santa Cruz Carnival next year for which we have 348 days left for the Parade, which would be on February 9, and the Gala on the 7th, following the traditional calendar of the Caranval. So in the next few weeks we will continue to make decisions about the format of next year’s Carnival because the calendar continues to test us.

On a personal level, Cabello confesses that “as a councilor for Fiestas, after a pandemic in between, a suspension and one in the summer, I have to say that I am very satisfied, exhausted, even exhilarated, and from here on the challenge remains work continuously throughout the year for an event that is the largest in all of the Canary Islands, and one of the most participatory, if not the most, in all of Spain”.
