One in three entrepreneurs advised by the Cabildo de Tenerife establishes their own company, with the service sector accounting for most of the new business, followed by commerce and restaurants, according to the activity report of the Service for the Creation of Companies that the Island Corporation provides through the Insular Canary Islands Foundation for Training, Employment and Business Development (Fifede).
The Minister of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and External Action, Carmen Luz Baso, has highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit of the active population of Tenerife, especially people over 45 years of age, “for whom self-employment has become an important job alternative.
In fact, around 45 percent of the new businesses created in 2022 with the support of the Insular Business Advisory Service were led by people of this age. In total, that year 463 personalized assessments were carried out, of which 146 projects materialized in a new company.
Carmen Luz Baso highlighted the importance of the service provided to entrepreneurs, with which, in addition to promoting new businesses, it helps to improve their business skills and facilitates their access to sources of financing, among other resources necessary for entrepreneurship.
In this sense, the counselor stressed the support work that is carried out together with entrepreneurs, from the moment they have their first idea about a business initiative until the moment they register their business.
Self-employment, the business idea, the business plan, the legal forms of the company, the incorporation procedures and the aid and subsidies available are the main axes of the training plan that is taught in the Business Creation Service, and in the In the past, 90 users participated.
Likewise, this service helped to manage different aids and subsidies, such as those granted by the Cabildo for maintaining employment after the Covid-19 crisis or the 2022 call for business initiatives, also from the island corporation. As a whole, more than 800,000 euros were managed.
The management of this service, by Fifede, is part of the strategy of the Island Entrepreneurship Plan of the Cabildo, whose main objective is to promote the creation of companies on the Island and promote the entrepreneurial spirit.
