Two women are investigated for fraud in the rental of homes in Tenerife

The Civil Guard has investigated two women, aged 42 and 27, both neighbors of Arona (Tenerife) for defrauding their victims by renting fictitious homes.

The investigation has been carried out by agents of the Civil Guard of the Main Post of Playa de Las Américas after learning that the first victim contacted one of the now investigated to rent a house located in the town of Buzanada and that was advertised in a well-known ad portal of this type.

After making an appointment to specify the details of the rental in the town of Cabo Blanco, the defendant managed to get the victim to pay her 600 euros in cash as a reservation/deposit, giving the investigated a handwritten receipt as proof of the delivery of said money. , as reported by the Civil Guard in a press release.

He also presented various excuses to the victim due to the delay that the delivery of the house was going to have and therefore the actual start of the rental, as well as that the apartment would be vacated on a certain date, that once it was evicted he had to fumigate it, between other things.

However, after some time had elapsed since the date of the appointment, the victim was no longer able to contact the alleged perpetrator and the money delivered was not returned.

As for the second investigation, which was carried out with a similar modus operandi, the defendant managed to defraud the victim of 400 euros for the fictitious rental of another home.

The proceedings of both investigations have been forwarded to the Investigating Court of Arona.

The Civil Guard remember in these cases to review all the photos in detail, pay attention to the contact person, be careful with the price, because if the figure seems too cheap to be true, it probably is not. He stresses that too-pretty ads in high-demand, impossible-to-miss areas are often fraud.

It also advises to investigate that the web is safe and if the ad is repeated on other pages.
