A total of 40,000 euros in prizes, 6,000 euros per test and six rallies to be held, four in Gran Canaria and two in Tenerife, are the novelties of the second edition of the Copa Clio Trophy Canarias, which in an act held at the Maroa Club de Mar, in Anfi del Mar-Arguineguindelivered the trophies for the 2022 season. A total of 10-12 teams will compete in the single-brand in 2022 at the controls of the Clio Rally5 troops. The new additions include Zósimo Hernández from El Hierro, Jesé Ramos from Gran Canaria and Héctor Mederos from Tenerife.
Renault is a brand with a tradition in competition and the only one that a driver can take from karting to F-1, through its different sports modalities. In addition, it has very competitive vehicles in various rally categories, such as Rally5, Rally4 and Rally3 (price of 122,000 euros), pending the arrival of a Rally2.
Renault is present in 20 sports competitions, distributing 160,000 euros in prize money, backed by a 31-year tradition in racing. For the 2023 Spanish Rally Championship, they officially return with an Alpine RGT-FIA entrusted to their driver Jorge Cagiao. Currently, Renault is present with 5 sports programs, which has 54 drivers.
The insular competition inaugurated last year by the Red Renault de Canarias, a resounding success in its first season, is reinforced for this second edition, endowed with a greater amount of prizes and a calendar extended to six rallies: four in Gran Canaria and two in Tenerife.
The podium of the Clio Trophy Canarias was made up of the winner of the championship Alejandro Martín and Daniel Rosario, being runners-up Sebastián Gil-Adrián Gil and third Manuel Hernández-David Bethencourt. In the Challenge category section, the winners were Sebastián Gil-Adrián Gil and in the Junior category: Iván Cabrera-Naira Cabrera. The recognition for overcoming was for the pilot Noé Armas.
The trophy delivery event was attended by representatives of the Renault Canarias Network, together with Jesús Presa, director of Public Affairs, Social Impact and Communication of Renault Group Iberia, as well as president of the Renault Group Spain Foundation; Chema Rodríguez, general director of Recalvi (official sponsor of all the rally single-brands backed by the French manufacturer); Markel de Zabaleta, head of competition for Renault Group Spain; José Ángel Batista, president of the FCA (Canary Automobile Federation); Francisco Negrín, president of the FIASCT (Inter-island Automobile Federation of Santa Cruz de Tenerife); and Miguel Ángel Domínguez, acting president and candidate for the FALP (Automobile Federation of Las Palmas) elections.
The town of Arguineguín in Gran Canaria hosted the first regional single-brand that Renault convened worldwide. After having revealed himself as an unbeatable boost for the young promises of the archipelago, The championship promoted by the Red Renault de Canarias, and managed by Driveland Events, proposes new incentives with a view to its second campaign.
This 2023, the Clio Trophy Canarias will have a larger prize pool and an extended calendar of five to six events: four of them in Gran Canaria (Rallye Islas Canarias, Rallye Isla de Gran Canaria, Rallye Villa de terror and Rally of maspalomas) and two in Tenerife (Rallye Villa de Adeje and Rallye Isla de Tenerife), one more than last year.
