The Diputación del Común values the Accessibility Map of Tenerife and urges to emulate in other islands the document of the Cabildo. The Deputy, Rafael Yanes, valued during a visit to the Insular Palace “the importance of the tool, an initiative that should be replicated.”
The vice president and counselor of the Presidency, Finance and Modernization, Berta Pérez, indicated that the island’s municipalities and more than 20 associations involved in disability matters were involved in the preparation. Yanes considered that it is “an idea that should be repeated in the rest of the councils.” In the first place, she adds, “for social justice for people with functional diversity who live here and have accessibility problems to public spaces.” Secondly, “as a point of attraction because we are a tourist territory and we should also aspire to be accessible”.
The Map has been developed by the Pérez and Social Action areas, directed by Marián Franquet. Yanes indicated that “disability and universal accessibility are two of our main concerns.” He added that “we already carried out an ex officio action with the 88 municipalities, precisely with what the Cabildo de Tenerife has just finished and for this I want to congratulate the institution.”
