LA LAGUNA (TENERIFE), 9 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The University of La Laguna (ULL) and the Cabildo de Tenerife have signed this Thursday the collaboration agreement to launch the ‘Talentum’ program through which the master lines of collaboration between both institutions in the field of applied research are established, transfer and innovation, and which entails stable financing for five years for a total of 5.5 million euros.

On behalf of the academic institution, its rector, Rosa Aguilar, signed the document, while on behalf of the insular corporation, its first vice president and insular councilor of the Area of ​​Highways, Mobility, Innovation and Culture, Enrique Arriaga, signed it.

The Insular Director of Innovation, María Aránzazu Artel, was also present at the event.

Through this agreement, the Cabildo will finance until 2027, at a rate of 1.1 million euros per year, the two modalities into which this new program is divided: ‘Talentum Transference ULL’, to finance both research staff contracts and projects that they direct, in collaboration with companies and entities of Tenerife and ‘Talentum ULL Investigación Aplicada’, which has been given the name of the honorary rector Antonio González, and which is associated with carrying out applied research projects linked to the research institutes of the University of La Laguna.

For the rector, it is very positive that the agreement contemplates lustral financing because that facilitates the sustainability of the management, collects a note from the ULL.

In his opinion, this initiative demonstrates the importance of public universities, as they contribute to finding solutions applied to the challenges of the territory and, in this way, collaborate in the configuration of a more sustainable Canary Islands.

The first vice president of the island corporation also appreciated the fact that the agreement provides funds for five years, as this will give more stability to the development of the projects covered under this program.

He also stressed that ‘Talentum’ will serve to meet social demands and, especially, those of the productive sector and companies.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROGRAM

A joint committee made up of representatives of both institutions will annually determine the specific work areas of each of the two lines that make up the Talentum program, taking into account the needs and priorities of the R&D sector on the island, counting for this with the advice of external expert personnel.

In the evaluation of the applications, the degree of scientific-technological maturity of the proposals carried out by the candidates and the research groups of the University of La Laguna linked to each project will also be taken into account. .

The development of the work will be subject to annual monitoring and both programs will represent an important boost to innovation and the transfer of technology and knowledge to society by the academic entity in the short and medium term, in crucial matters such as energy, biotechnology, biodiversity and tourism, among others.
