The last blows of the cold drop in Tenerife cover Mount Teide with snow

He Teide National Park woke up yesterday covered in the biggest snowfall this fall and winter. During the night and early morning from Sunday to Monday, the most copious fall that leaves the cold drop that approached the Archipelago during the last days of last week took place. Although its incidence forced the closure of all accesses to the Cañadas del Teide on Sunday, early yesterday afternoon the Mobility and Roads area of ​​the Cabildo announced the reopening to traffic through the TF-21 -the road that It gives access from the north through La Orotava- and the TF-24, which leads to the National Park through La Esperanza (El Rosario). Measurement that was completed an hour later in the rest of the accesses.

If the snowfall registered on Saturday already placed the thermometer at -4.5 degrees in Izaña, until last night the cold rose one tenth, to -4.6. Only one other point of the Islands reached the level below zero, the Gran Canaria municipality of Vega de San Mateowhich registered -1.6 degrees, according to the data provided on its website by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Cold that yesterday was notoriously felt throughout the western province. The Alto de Igualero, in Vallehermoso (La Gomera), with 2.8 degreesand the nucleus of San Andrés, in Valverde (The iron), with six degrees, are the following records in minimum temperatures throughout the day yesterday.

The maximum temperature experienced yesterday in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife corresponded to 22.1 degrees in Tazacorte (The Palm); 21.8 degrees in Adeje (Tenerife); and the 21.5 degrees registered in La Dama, center of Vallehermoso (La Gomera).

The first snowfall, recorded last Saturday, It already left the Cañadas del Teide covered in a white mantle, although it was the second snowfall -fallen just 24 hours later– the one that finished covering the National Park. Essential snow to replenish the island’s aquifers.

These blows from the Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) have yesterday added spectacular images of Teide from all points of the Island, especially to the North. Images that are added to other very infrequent ones obtained the day before, in the case of the vineyards of La Geria, in the desert Lanzarote, dusted with white. the island of volcanoes it even experienced a small tornado on Saturday, accompanied by hail and abundant rain.

The week began also sprinkled with rain. The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife was the point of the Archipelago where the greatest number of liters was recorded during the day. The chicharrera capital lived during the afternoon, in a special way, intervals of intense rain. In the rest of the western province, the statistics show, among the most abundant records, 5.6 liters in Izaña and in the La Gomera town of Arure. At Tenerife North Airport, 5.3 and at Aico, 5.2.
