SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The deputy secretary of Organization of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands, Carlos Ester, has indicated that the official visit made by the president of the autonomous government, Ángel Víctor Torres, to Cuba and Venezuela is due to “merely electoral” reasons.

“That after almost four years at the head of the Executive is interested in the situation of the Canaries in these countries, just when the legislature ends and with the elections just around the corner, it is disconcerting,” said the also deputy in the regional Chamber .

According to Carlos Ester, “it blushes that President Torres has only taken into account the Canarian community of Cuba and Venezuela when the electoral appointment approaches out of pure partisan interest”, while regretting the explanations of the president of the regional Executive to excuse ” its abandonment” to the islanders and descendants of Canarians who live in both countries. “He returns to shelter under the umbrella of misfortunes to justify his negligence and irresponsibility as president,” he said.

In turn, he reproached that the only action directed at the Canaries in Cuba and Venezuela under the Torres presidency occurs “under the guise of promises”: “He has had four years to deal with the harsh reality of thousands of countrymen in these countries and it has not done so. His commitment now goes through the announcement of promising aid for families without providing how he will do it or a specific date to make them effective.

In this sense, the representative of the PP pointed out that the Canarian president goes to Cuba and Venezuela “with the mask of everything going well, launching triumphalist messages and hiding the true reality of the Archipelago.” “He will not be able to admit that his government has impoverished the Canary Islands, and there are the data; per capita income continues to move away by leaps and bounds from the national average, our Community is poorer and more unproductive than in 2019,” he added.

Lastly, Carlos Ester asked if President Torres plans to “condemn the Maduro dictatorship and defend democratic values” on his agenda. “Will he be able to denounce the government’s outrages before thousands of Canarians in Venezuela, demand that Venezuela return to normality, that democratic order be restored and that fair, free and transparent elections be held, along with the release of all prisoners? politicians?” he questioned.
