SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Podemos and Izquierda Unida (IU) have announced on Monday an “unpublished agreement” between the two formations to run jointly in town halls, councils and the regional Parliament in the next regional and municipal elections in May.
The organizations celebrate in a statement the “historic agreement” that takes place for the first time in the archipelago and that they have described as “a forceful commitment to unity as an antidote to uncertainty.”
In joint statements, the main progressive formations of the archipelago have appealed to “the urgent need to build certainties from unity”, inviting the rest of the transformative forces and the social agents of the Canary Islands to “join an agreement in which the whole world fits “.
“We know that the moment is complex, but we must focus on how necessary it is to continue being decisive to deploy transformative policies throughout the archipelago. Achieving this requires forging alliances, building mutual trust and assuming joint responsibility. That is why it is urgent to put an end to uncertainty and give hope”, they point out.
The alliance, which was already closed in the main cities of the archipelago during the 2019 elections and will be extended next May to all the administrative levels of the Canary Islands, has been described by the parties as “a firm step towards unity” that ” aspires to enrich itself from the contribution of the whole of the progressive ecosystem of the Canary Islands”, while insisting that “the doors are open to everyone”.
The details of the agreement will be announced in the coming days and will be subject to the ratification of the bases of both organizations.
Pending the final decision made by Sí se Puede, another alliance of leftist forces has already been created, made up of Proyecto Drago, led by the former secretary of the Organization of Podemos, Alberto Rodríguez, Equo, Ahora Canarias and Canarias Verde.
