Construction Labor Foundation in the Canary Islands: 30 years celebrating what has been built

At the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción we have been working since 1992 to provide companies and workers with the resources that make possible a more professional, safe, trained and future sector, which today works more united and connected than ever with each other, with society and with the rest of the sectors, to face the challenge of the new times.

The Construction Labor Foundation in the Canary Islands (FLC) is made up of the CT of the palms and the CT of Tenerife. “Together we have achieved great results since the first Collective Agreement in the Sector was signed,” explains Salud Gil, president of the FLC, who adds that “if we are proud of anything in these 30 years of trajectory is an example of a sectoral social dialogue unparalleled that has contributed to add, unite and create synergies to improve the professional qualification and working conditions of workers”. «From the FLC we are firmly committed to training as a transforming element of the sector, promoting programs adapted to the real needs of the sector and companies.

Training

The Construction Labor Foundation in the Canary Islands highlights a growth in students trained and training hours: «the proof is in the more than 170,289 students trained; 11,318 women, 12,500 courses and 5,625,788 hours of training,” they say. Continuous training and updating of professional skills are fundamental requirements to face the demands of the labor market and the new times. The FLC, with the crisis of Covid 19, made open access to its short online courses available to interested parties through the Campus Fundación educational platform, which provides content to acquire knowledge related to innovation and good construction practices.: 4,432 courses were held on the islands.

international projects

«In the Canary Islands we have participated in projects such as the Project Build 2020+ to promote green employment in construction, promoting training and professional accreditation in Energy Efficiency and, also, the Woman Can Build project, with testimonials from students and teachers, a commitment to equal opportunities between men and women in the construction sector. Likewise, the Canary Islands has led MAC Projects and collaborated with the Ministry of Education in Cape Verde and Morocco.

Innovation

The BIM Methodology is a benchmark in innovation within the sector and the Construction Labor Foundation offers a complete training itinerary to improve the training of workers in the sector, training a total of 243 people in the Canary Islands. In this sense, the creation in 2021 of the CIDE Digital Network has served to promote the digital transformation of companies in the construction sector and related sectors or sectors that are not at the forefront of digitization processes and, consequently, demand actions that facilitate their transformation. In total, a total of 290 information service queries have been resolved, 123 companies have been advised and culminated in six success stories.

Prevention of occupational hazards

In the field of occupational risk prevention, from the FLC in the Canary Islands, more than 11,000 visits made through the Joint Organization for Prevention in Construction (OPPC) and more than 10,520 consultations attended by the free advice service Prevention Line, of the of which 65% were on training obligations in occupational risk prevention.

Employment

Improving the employability of people who are part of the sector is one of the founding purposes of this joint entity. In recent years, the tasks and tools aimed at promoting employment and labor insertion of construction professionals have been considerably expanded, as reflected in the 33,313 Construction Professional Cards issued since 2007 or the 6,871 profiles between users and companies registered in the job market (www.construyendoempleo.com) The labor intermediation and orientation initiatives carried out through the Labor Orientation Service (OPEA) are another proof of the work that the joint entity has been carrying out in terms of employment in the Canary Islands, with more than 75,249 users served.
