1.7 million euros for the distribution of basic products to vulnerable families

The Council of Tenerife opens a new line of subsidies worth 1.7 million euros for entities that distribute essential products to vulnerable families on the Island. The publication of the call is scheduled for the second half of February, which this year, along with the distribution of food and basic aid, will also include menstrual hygiene items,

The island president Peter Martin, highlights that “this new item adds to the three million allocated since 2021 to collaborate with those who are closest to vulnerable people, social entities; We have maintained cooperation with them since the beginning of the mandate”.

Martin remembers that the social action of council extends to all municipalities of Tenerife that receive aid to alleviate social emergency situations for 6.8 million. The president added that “one of the great priorities of the insular government is attention to those who most need social support through emergency aid or to purchase basic necessities.” He does not forget to mention other lines of work such as multiplying scholarships for studies or helping to generate jobs in the municipalities ».

new contribution

The president clarifies that of this game of 1.7 million are contemplated 200,000 euros for the distribution of menstrual hygiene products. With this, explains Pedro Martín, “we want to meet a need that is often neglected and is essential to cover.”

For his part, the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, also values the work carried out by the entities, “whose work goes beyond a mere distribution of products, since it is enriched with something priceless, the close treatment, accompaniment and listening to the people and families they serve”. They find in them support for their “problems and needs.” “They bring us closer to their different realities and get to where the administrations, without them, we could not,” says the counselor.

Gugliotta points out that the item will be divided into two lines of subsidies, “with which we want to reach both the entities that distribute directly to people and those that deal with supplying products to other social entities.”

Organizations that apply for these grants must be affiliated with the Tenerife Isla Solidaria program, which is managed by Sinpromi. For the economic distribution among the beneficiary entities, their size, the territorial area they cover, the areas of action and the number of municipalities they cover, as well as the number of people and families who attend, will be taken into account.

The insular LGTBIQ+ strategy

The areas of Citizen Participation and Diversity and Equality and Prevention of Gender Violence, integrated into Social Action, have had intense activity in recent days. In this sense, the Cabildo involves all the entities linked to the elaboration of the LGBTIQ+ Insular Strategic Framework. The CEO Nauzet Gugliotta assesses: “A meeting has been held with the activist groups to collect their suggestions and adjust the island policies of attention to diversity between 2023 and 2025.” The meeting took place at the La Esperanza camp, in El Rosario, and was coordinated by Diversas Canarias. The Gugliotta area is also launching a new campaign to prevent sexually transmitted infections at Carnival. It will aim to raise awareness among citizens and will be focused on the entire population, with special incidence on youth. For her part, the CEO of Equality and Prevention of Gender Violence, Priscila de León, met with representatives of the Canarian Association of Midwives to learn about her activities and projects. During the meeting, the possibility of Tenerife being the venue for the next edition of the Regional Days of Midwives was also discussed. | JDM
