About thirty young people celebrate a party and camp in La Caleta de Adeje

Around thirty young people organized and held, over the weekend, a party in Caleta de adejea space that has special protection as it has been declared a Place of Scientific Interest. The organizers moved to this enclave a music system that included high-powered speakers, a mixing desk and a generator to power this infrastructure, which they kept in use –with loud music– for much of the day.

In this environment, in addition, there were several groups of people camped using about twenty booths, as can be seen in the recording made public through social networks on the same Sunday. Both activities are prohibited in this placebut it is common for the presence of tents to be detected in the area, something that has been denounced on countless occasions by both visitors and residents of the municipality of Adeje.

According to some of the witnesses, those who enjoyed this party in Caleta de Adeje had tried to set it up in the area of La Tejita, in Abona granadillaplace from which they were expelled.

in the council of Tenerife There is no record of any complaint linked to this party and camping. This Monday, Environment agents went to the place to inspect it and evaluate its condition.

The environment is a Site of Scientific Interest that has the purpose of “conserving and maintaining a relevant coastal space that serves as a refuge for threatened seabirds, as well as waders and migratory birds”, the cliff and the coves and beach of La Caleta make up a set “of enormous landscape relevance”, with an area that covers just over 78 hectares.

Nevertheless, human activity has degraded this space and, from what is seen, they continue to practice forbidden habits that damage the place. The complaints for this proliferate and the Fundación Telesforo Bravo Juan Coello has done so publicly on numerous occasions, but the lack of control in the area continues. Not only is the environment damaged by camping, but waste is left behind and the terrain is altered.

mass eviction

On July 14, 2020, the most relevant eviction took place of this Site of Scientific Interest. The Cabildo supervised the action, coordinated by the Ministry of Natural Environment and Security together with the Adejero consistory, the Government of the Canary Islands, Costs and the Government Delegation. From this enclave, 1,800 tons of rubble, plastic, belongings, clothing, wood remains and palm leaves were removed, as well as all kinds of garbage. 29 large, 38 medium-sized and 55 small cabins and caves were dismantled.

Since then, attempts to reoccupy this place have not stopped. The best known was registered in July 2021, a year after the great eviction. Then, the surveillance device, made up of Environment agents, evicted more than 50 people in the area of the Los Burros ravine and Los Acantilados de Diego Hernández, in La Caleta de Adeje. The same agents raised eight infraction acts during a weekend.
