Forty million euros is the investment in the hydraulic works that are currently being developed in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona. This millionaire expense is used in different actions in terms of sanitation and in the improvement of wastewater treatment. Among these projects, the construction of the Los Letrados water treatment plant stands out., whose work is advancing at a good pace; the Ensenada Pelada wastewater treatment and pumping station; industrial wastewater treatment plant from the Granadilla Industrial Estate and the subsidiaries collectors from the towns of Charco del Pino and the central nucleus of Granadilla de Abona, as well as pumping and drives from the coast, among others.
The mayor, José Domingo Regalado, has visited the different areas during the week to find out the status of these works, which are being carried out in various towns in the municipality and which are expected to become a reality next year. The aforementioned projects are executed through an agreement with the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Sociedad Mercantil Estatal Aguas de las Cuencas de España (Acuaes).
Regalado states that this island problem will have a solution in Granadilla de Abona in 2024 and explains that the construction of the Los Letrados Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) “has always been the priority work for the local and municipal government.” The councilor highlights that “what is necessary now is that the established deadlines are met and that we can count on this infrastructure as soon as possible, which is a vital action in environmental matters that our municipality demands. When it comes into operation it will be a great day for Granadilla de Abona”.
In this municipality, “the main problem has been not having a water purification system or facilities commensurate with the population growth that it has registered for decades. Granadilla de Abona is committed to sustainability and this work will allow reclaimed water to be used, in turn, for agriculture”.
El Medano and San Isidro
To the Los Letrados treatment plant, the Ensenada Pelada Wastewater Treatment and Pumping Station (Etbar); the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (Edari) of the industrial estate and the median and pumping collectors on the coastwe must add the municipal cooperation project between the Granada City Council and the Island Corporation, which have already ended with a global investment of more than 1.6 million euros, an intervention that has meant the renovation of the sanitation network of the promenade maritime of El Médano and San Isidro.
On this, José Domingo Regalado argues that “the essential purpose was to have the internal infrastructure necessary to incorporate it into the pumping stations, collectors and the treatment plant.” To make it possible, the Municipal Corporation contributed more than 323,000 euros in the conditioning of this network “so necessary for the coastal area and for San Isidro, and with which Granadilla de Abona”. From the perspective of the mayor of Granada, it is part of the local commitment “and continues to add to sustainability and for being a respectful municipality with the environment.”
The mayor points out that, in addition, the City Council will invest approximately one million euros in the interior network of the urban area of Granadilla de Abona, an intervention that will be completed within the framework of municipal cooperation works.
