The reactivation of tourism after the pandemic, embodied in the 5.5 million visitors who chose Tenerife for their holidays in 2022, has been reflected, as might be expected, in the unemployment figures in all the southern municipalities, which have seen how has reduced the queue of unemployment in the last year. In the region as a whole, the number of unemployed went from 20,561, in January 2022, to 16,354 at the end of last year, that is, 4,207 fewer people.

Adeje, the municipality that accounts for 40% of the hotel beds on the Island, had the largest decrease (-24.65%), followed by Arona (-20.30%), which signed its best data in 15 years after falling of the barrier of 6,000 unemployed.

The third most pronounced drop (-19.98%) corresponded to Guía de Isora, ahead of Santiago del Teide (-17.57%), which, with the most favorable record in a decade, is close to full employment, accounting for 530 people registered in the Inem. Granadilla, the second most populous municipality in the South, reduced unemployment by 17.29% in 2022, while San Miguel did so by 13.57%. Towns with fewer inhabitants also registered decreases: Fasnia (-10.8%), Vilaflor (-7.75%) and Arico (-4.82).
