SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, said this Thursday that the data corresponding to the 2022 Active Population Survey (EPA) –with 50,100 fewer unemployed– demonstrate the “economic consolidation” of the islands and certify that the recovery is “real”.
In statements to journalists after a visit to a center for people with disabilities, he stressed that the unemployment rate is below 15%, “something that had not happened” for 16 years, and “compared to some who doubt everything”, he has defended that the EPA has been prepared for decades and at other times in the history of the archipelago unemployment exceeded 30%.
Torres has insisted that in the Canary Islands they are “stronger in the face of any adversity” and has expressed that “everyone” should be happy because “there is good data” while “when it is not like that” it is necessary to do “joint work to reverse the situation”.
However, he said that the EPA data “invite us to continue working for the economic improvement” of the islands.
