SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Board of the Parliament of the Canary Islands has informed this Thursday that the Canary Islands deputies will continue to receive their salary until the next regional elections are held on May 28 and not until the constitution of the new regional Chamber, as was collected this Wednesday by error in a draft that was discussed in the regulation commission.

In a communiqué, it details that the resolution proposal agreement that was forwarded to the Commission, in the wording of its article 17.bis, “contained a material transcription error on the part of the General Secretariat, derived from the various previous drafts with which that was worked on, in relation to the previous positioning of the committee with respect to the draft modification proposal, in such a way that the deputies will stop receiving the remuneration corresponding to exclusive dedication on the day of the date of the elections and not until the constitution of the new Parliament”, as reported by some media.

From that moment on, the Bureau continues, “only those members of Parliament who are either part of the Permanent Deputation or have been re-elected will continue to receive the remuneration derived from the exclusive dedication regime”.

As it has been until now, the Board points out, the proposal to modify the Regulations consists strictly in transferring the regulation that until now was carried out through resolutions of the Board and the Board of Spokespersons.

This is stated in the work history of the Board in relation to the proposal to modify the Regulations, it indicates in such a way that even so it was exposed by the president, Gustavo Matos, in the session of the Regulations Commission.

For all these reasons, the Board has adopted the agreement to proceed to formalize the material correction through the General Secretariat of the Chamber for its incorporation into the text that will be debated in the corresponding parliamentary process.

In this way, said material error will be rectified in such a way that the proposal of article 17.bis 2 adjusts to the previous opinion of the Board in the following terms:
“The deputies will have the right to the aforementioned remuneration from the time they take office until the date of the elections, unless they cease their positions beforehand for any of the reasons provided for in these regulations. The elections will only be maintained in this regime the members of the Permanent Deputation and those who have been re-elected in the electoral call”.

The new regulation also includes that deputies who are expelled or who leave their party will be considered non-members and will not be able to form part of the Mixed Group, that councilors have the obligation to respond to deputies in committees or that citizens can intervene in the plenary sessions

Now a paper will be constituted and the regulation will be approved in the last plenary session of the Legislature.
