The municipalities of the coastal zone of the lower island claim better connections with the Island Ring which, in its current configuration, passes far from the urban centers of Garachico, Los Silos and Buenavista del Norte. These three northwestern towns will continue to rely on old and winding roads in the future for access to this fast lane. The Silense Mayor Macarena Fuentes (CC)and the mayors of Garachico and Buenavista, José Heriberto González (CC) and Antonio González Fortes (SSP)share this demand and continue to await the study of alternatives promised by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2018 and the proposals to improve the Council of Tenerife to connect the lower area of the region, where the majority of the population is concentrated, with the layout as it passes through Icod and El Tanque.
The tanker mayor, Esther Morales (PSOE)has also joined the demand to improve the TF-421 highway, which connects its town with the Garachiquense nucleus of The crosses, because it will become “the main link between the Isla Baja and the Insular Ring”. Among their demands, resurfacing, improving and expanding the layout where possible, guaranteeing the stability of the slopes and improving the channeling of rainwater, signaling and protection barriers.
the garachiquense Jose Heriberto Gonzalez insists on claiming again now, when talking about the new section Come in San Juan de la Rambla and Good Step, «the improvement of the accesses from Isla Baja to the Insular Ring, because it is lagging behind». In his opinion, “there will not be a complete ring if the citizens of this area (some 14,000 people between the three municipalities) do not have adequate and good access.”
“There will not be a complete ring if the citizens of this area do not have adequate and good access”
the good dresser Anthony Gonzalez agrees with the president of Garachico that it is necessary to solve the lack of access from the coast of Isla Baja to the Insular Ring, which does pass directly through the territories from Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque. «For the moment, we are going to continue oblivious to this new layout, outside that line of the road, and we will depend on the existing roads», he emphasizes.
link pathways
The municipalities of Isla Baja have asked the Council of Tenerife the need to improve the roads that currently serve as a link with the island ring and the TF-5: the TF-421, between Las Cruces and El Tanque Bajo, and the TF-82, which connects Icod with the upper neighborhoods of Garachico and El Tanque.
In order to connect with the ring, which for the moment ends in the El Tanque town, people from Silense and Garachiquense must travel more than 8 kilometers, most via the circuitous TF-421, the road to Las Cruces, which is narrow, steep and full of hairpin turns. The other alternative is to go back about 10 kilometers to Buen Paso, in Icod de los Vinos, to visit another 11 kilometers to El Tanque. The buenavisteros should add a few more kilometers to the route.
The Las Cruces highway does not meet the minimum safety and comfort requirementsso it is waiting for the long-awaited improvement project to materialize, which is also the only way out of the municipality and Isla Baja when there is a cut in the TF-42.
The proposal that defends garachico since 2017 is that the upper part of its municipality also has a direct connection with the section of the island ring that joins Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque. It is proposed that between the neighborhoods of Genovés and San Juan del Reparo there is a direct link with this expressway. This possibility, which was raised for the area of Los Barros, was pending a study of alternatives of the Government of the Canary Islands, announced in 2018.
