The Government views with surprise the criticism of some businessmen of the EPA data

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The spokesman for the Government of the Canary Islands, Julio Pérez, described this Thursday as “good news” the balance left by the Active Population Survey (EPA) in 2022, with more than 50,000 fewer unemployed, an unemployment rate of 14.5% and almost a million people employed, and at the same time does not understand the criticisms of some business organizations –in reference to CEOE-Tenerife–.

In a press conference to give an account of the agreements of the Governing Council, he stated that it is necessary to congratulate that unemployment has reached levels of 2007 and although the “concern” remains because there are still people who cannot find work and the prices continue to rise, maintains that “data cannot be devalued” and presented as if they were “irrelevant”.

Pérez has highlighted the joy of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Chamber of Commerce for the unemployment data, to the point that it has revised it upwards, to 9%, which has contrasted with the fact that “surprisingly” another organization “seems to deny the good news”.

The spokesman also highlighted that unemployment on the islands, compared to the state average, is just over two points above, a “very slight” difference that does not hide, in any case, that “there are still many difficulties” to find specific profiles in job offers or also “prepared people who can’t find an occupation”.
