The New York skyline already rises and shines at the Fairgrounds, where work has been done at a “frantic pace” to finish preparing the stage for the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which officially starts today with the first of the contests , the one of the children’s murgas. Thus, ten days after the start of the work, after various administrative setbacks that delayed the start of the assembly, yesterday it was possible to see the stage practically finished and in which “100 people have been working” to get to today with everything ready, according to The mayor of Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, highlighted yesterday during a visit to the place.

“Finally the Carnival returns on its dates to the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The New York scenario is already a reality, it is finishing preparations, at a frantic pace”, assessed the councilor, who was very satisfied with the progress of the work and that, he pointed out, it is “a scenario for which More than 5,000 people will pass by” throughout the contests and galas.

Asked about the tasks that still remained to get the stage ready today, Alfonso Cabello replied that there was still “work that has to do with the cranes and movement of carpentry” and that yesterday afternoon it would begin “with the tests and calibration of lights , which is something that has to be done at night, and the last sound adjustments”. But he emphasized that “we will arrive with 100% of the sound, the stage and also the lighting”, and stressed that there will be “some small surprises, as always, for the day of the Queen’s Gala and some novelties with the elements that will go appearing, and that they have to do with what is going to happen each of the days” of galas and contests.

Decorators, carpenters, sound technicians, lighting assemblers, painters, electricians, structure assemblers and audiovisual technicians have worked hard to shape the design devised by Carlos Santos, which stands out for its spaciousness and for having the figures of large skyscrapers. of New York, as well as its own Statue of Liberty.

“A stage that is conceived so that in a troupe contest there are 200 people dancing on stage or at a queen election gala there is a candidate on top. It is a scenario that works with depth, the integration with the screens, where we have worked on the buildings in a modern concept that has to do with the multiverse”, explained the councilor, who stressed that “if New York is the capital of the world , we are from Carnival, and that is the objective of that scenario ”.

For his part, the stage designer, Carlos Santos, added that “the idea is that great Manhattan skyline where several iconic buildings stand out from the mass.” He explained that the stage “is designed to create the maximum sensation of depth possible, since it is mounted on a structure with a V-shaped arrangement and, together with the inclination of the most representative buildings, it will provide dynamism, contrast and the highlight characteristic of this megalopolis”.

Carlos Santos pointed out that yesterday all that remained was to finish “carpentry, sound and lighting work”, and stressed that “when the LED screens and lighting come on, that is when this complete stage will be seen, and with the live show of each discipline ”.

‘Murguitas’

The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will include the participation of a total of six critical groups, in the following order of participation: Lenguas Largas, El Cabito, Redoblones, Distraidos, Carricitos, and Sofocados.

The jury for the three phases of this critical contest will be made up of the artistic designer Lumai Moreno Capuozzo, the superior technician in costumes for shows Cristina Alejandra Martín González, the plastic artist and performer Roberto Miranda, the graduate in Fine Arts specializing in design Sandra de La Rosa Pérez and the textile and clothing technician Teresa Hernández Quesada, who will assess the presentation.

The punctuation of the interpretation will be carried out by the oral narrator and implementer of educational projects Fabio González Torres; the Early Childhood Education teacher Sandra Montes de Oca Negrín; the collaborator of Canarias Radio La Autonómica, singer, musical director, actress and journalist, María José Cámara Cabeza; the murguero and representative of the Los Escandinabos Song of Laughter group, Francisco Javier Martín Abreu; the opera singer, Carmen Acosta; the music teacher and graduate in Pedagogy of Musical Language Teresa de Jesús Jerónimo Hernández, and the singer Jonathan Amaro.
The second phase of the murgas will take place tomorrow, and the third, on Saturday.

Some 50,000 people are expected to attend the galas and contests

The mayor of Fiestas pointed out that some “50,000 people” will attend the galas and competitions that will take place on the stage of the Fairgrounds, which occupies an area of about 2,000 square meters, with a height of 16 meters and which can be accessed from through three ramps, counting, in addition, with an extension of the rotating towards the public and with 210 square meters of screens.
