The Government of the Canary Islands has formally requested the Ministry of Finance to transfer ownership of the Igueste de San Andrés Traffic Light, after the auction that was scheduled for October 26 was suspended. This was confirmed by the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands to DIARIO DE AVISOS, pointing out that the administrative procedures have just begun, so that, once the transfer is completed, it will be the Executive of the Canary Islands itself that executes the project rehabilitation of this property, prepared by the architect Carlos Pallés in 2019, and which will be reviewed before proceeding with its execution.

In the project, it was found that the building was in ruins, in fact, it has been on the Red List of Heritage for years, a situation that has not stopped worsening over time. The solution proposed by the architect at the time was to eliminate the roofs, seriously deteriorated, consolidating the walls that give it shape to give it a use for meteorological observation.

In this way, as different political groups and the Santa Cruz City Council had requested, the Canarian Government takes charge of this historic installation, which was one of the first 20 electric traffic lights that were built on the Spanish coast.

Precisely today, the Plenary of the Capital City Council addresses two motions with this installation as the protagonist. The first is the one presented by the socialist councilor Florentino Guzmán, urging the Consistory to request the transfer of the property, and the second is that of the mayor of Infrastructure and Heritage, Dámaso Arteaga.
