On December 28, 2022, the jury in charge of awarding this prize met at the headquarters of the La Guancha Music Board to value all the proposals presented in the sixth edition of this award, which aims to “give prestige and recognize the work of individuals or groups that have contributed or contribute in a notorious way to the cultural growth of the municipality of the guancha“. Once the proposals presented were analyzed, it was unanimously decided to award the prize Anchor of Prayed to the cultural merit 2022 to the guanchero ex-councilman Agustin Yanes Gonzalez.

The winner was a teacher in the guancha between the years 1970 and 2003. He was part of the Agrarian Youth Campus, who carried out many activities in the municipality, especially costumbrista theater performances, some of which were his own. In 1979 he began his political career as an independent councilor in the first democratic elections of the La Guancha Town Hall, taking responsibility for the now-defunct Department of Music, among others. It was at this stage that he opted to promote the reunification of the Music Band Hopewhich had disappeared in 1966. Thanks to this task and the involvement of many, it was possible for the band to play again in the celebration of Corpus Christi in 1980. Also in this stage as councilor, and in that same year , organized other groups, such as the Tabona folkloric groupthe Band of Bugles and Drums and Los Xerco theater group. he also created the music academy in 1984 and various local murgas from those years owe him a lot. The Harlequinsin 1983, or The Smurfs, in 1985, are a clear example of this also festive involvement. This last murga was made up of its own students and later gave rise to what would be called the children’s folkloric group Tafertes.

“It is also our way of putting the focus of attention on the rescue of our memory and our hallmarks”

Dalila Pamés – President of the La Guancha Music Board

From Tafertes group is the birth of the prestigious local folkloric group Abruncos. He later created the dance troupe marañuelas. He also highlighted his work in the Municipal Library, as well as his involvement and effort in the ethnographic rescue. For the president of the Board of Music, Delilah Palmes“this award is recovered after a mandatory break due to the pandemic and its consequences, but it remains faithful to the spirit with which it was born: to do social justice to those people or groups that have worked or are working for the culture of the municipality. It is In addition, our way of putting the focus of attention on the rescue of our memory and our hallmarks”.
