SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 20 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Mixed Commission for the reconstruction, recovery and support of the island of La Palma has approved today, Friday, a report that will be sent to the Ombudsman with all the measures that have been adopted, as of December 31, 2022, to alleviate the effects from the Cumbre Vieja volcano.

This was announced at a press conference by the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, after a new meeting of the Mixed Commission, in which he was accompanied by the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the president of the Cabildo de La Palma , Mariano H. Zapata.

Minister Bolaños affirmed that the link between the Government of Spain and La Palma “is beyond any doubt”. In fact, he wanted to remember that it is the seventh time that he has visited the Island since the volcanic eruption began and highlighted that with today’s meeting, eleven meetings of the Mixed Commission have already been held.

Félix Bolaños highlighted that the meeting has been “very useful, to face the problems hand in hand and to solve everything that is in the hands of the Public Administrations; a loyal and institutional collaboration between different governments that continues until we manage to rebuild all life projects that were cut short as a result of the volcano.

For his part, the President of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has denied that aid has not reached those affected by the volcano on the island of La Palma because the economic services of the competent Administrations have accredited the delivery of 605 million euros. . In the case of the Government of the Canary Islands, he explained that close to 70 million have been delivered.

Regarding the housing emergency for the families who have lost their homes as a result of the volcanic eruption, Ángel Víctor Torres assured that all of them “have received a response with the delivery of a home” and specified that there are only two people staying in a hotel who were offered a modular home and have preferred to wait for a flat, which will be delivered this February.

Along these same lines, the president added that a total of 298 homes have been acquired by the Government of the Canary Islands to make them available to those affected, to which must be added 531 families that receive rental payment from the Canary Islands Executive, which adds up to a total of 829 families that have received a response to their housing emergency situation.

Torres has also advanced that the supplement of 30,000 euros for families who have lost their homes will begin to be paid in February, in addition to the decree law approved last December for the primary sector, whose Aid has already been delivered to those affected.

Regarding the planning and reconstruction of the island of La Palma, the head of the Canarian Executive explained that a total of 150 families have obtained a planning license or have begun to build on rustic land, to which another 250 more families will be added.

In this sense, he announced that this afternoon there will be a meeting with the residents to discuss the draft of the new reconstruction decree in which the will is “the maximum consensus, listen to all parties, do it as soon as possible but not putting time ahead consensus; a draft in which we want critical and constructive proposals so that it is the best possible decree”.
