The Animal Welfare area, for which Carlos Tarife is responsible, has been immersed in the process of legalization of cat colonies identified in the city and their sterilization.
According to municipal data, there are currently 85 colonies, which adds up to 653 cats, which have been sterilized and identified (chip placement). This is stated in the response that the area has provided to the United We Can group that has taken an interest in this matter.
So far, only one of the 85 neighborhoods has been legalized, since it is the only one that has complied with the requirements established in the municipal ordinance. Another 20 have been provisionally authorized and, to date, 21 have been denied. According to the City hallAuthorizations are expected to increase considerably this year.
The location of the different registered colonies is distributed in the five districts of the municipality, with special attention to those close to the Anaga rural park and to the infant and primary schools.
The members of the colonies are registered in the name of the owners of the colonies as responsible for them until they give up or the colony disappears; however, as indicated in the authorization, the civil liability that its members may incur is covered by municipal insurance. The direct annual investment made to date is 18,000 euros in the concept of sterilization, identification and deworming of its members and in the purchase of capture cages.
