SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de Tenerife has met with the associations related to ethnography and traditions of the island to present the web platform ‘Tradiciones Tenerife’, an ethnographic rescue project that aims to value the popular practices of the island, such as dances, dances, parties or liveries.

The meeting was attended by the Island Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla; the insular director of Agriculture and Rural Development, Cayetano Silva; the mayoress of Tegueste, Ana Rosa Mena, municipal representatives of Los Realejos, Buenavista and La Guancha, and more than 40 members of the different groups participating in the project.

Javier Parrilla stressed that “the objective of this meeting was to open the platform to a participatory process with all the participating groups and collect their suggestions and proposals to incorporate them into the website, which is intended to be a starting point to increase knowledge of our traditions. “.

It is, therefore, the first inventory of traditions carried out in Tenerife and can be used as a teaching tool in schools on the island. The website currently has a total of 78 files, although it is expected that it will soon exceed a hundred.

The island official explained that “the platform gathers, as an inventory, information on the different historical reenactments, dances, routes and popular identity festivals of each municipality, such as dances, liveries and boats”, as well as events such as the Threshing Day , the traditional harvest of Icod el Alto or the water route, in Adeje.

“It is about these traditions surviving and being available to both the local population and any visitor. I am convinced that this project will have positive repercussions on the island’s tourism proposal and will bring the population closer to knowing its hallmarks representative,” concluded Parrilla.

The page will also include information on the closest activities or festivities, the dates and municipalities in which they will take place.
