Social Security in the Canary Islands gained an average of 12,335 foreign affiliates in 2022, 12.1% more than in 2021, with which the year closed with 113,975 immigrant workers registered in the system. Of the total number of contributing foreigners at the end of 2022, 53.1% were men (60,535) and 46.8% women (53,440), as reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations.
At the national level, Social Security gained an average of 190,913 foreign affiliates last year, which is 8.4% more if compared to 2021, in such a way that the year 2022 closed with 2,460,719 immigrant workers registered in the system, new maximum at the end of a financial year. Of the total foreign contributors, 56.2% were men (1,382,811) and 43.8% women (1,077,908).
The figure of 2.46 million employed was reached after the Social Security lost 3,933 foreign affiliates last December compared to the previous month, thus chaining its second consecutive monthly decline after November, the month in which it lost 5,720 foreign contributors.
In seasonally adjusted terms, the affiliation of foreigners to Social Security rose in 2022 by 194,013 contributors, up to a total of 2,500,677 employed, 311,256 more than before the arrival of the pandemic, in February 2020, and 14,780 more than in November of 2022.
As a whole, foreign workers represented at the end of last year 12.3% of the total number of people who were affiliated with Social Security in seasonally adjusted values.
Of the total foreign affiliates at the end of last year, 826,806 came from EU countries (33.6%) and 1,633,913 from third countries (66.4%). The most numerous foreign employed groups are workers from Romania (330,857), Morocco (305,428), Italy (158,635), Colombia (127,891) and Venezuela (125,201).
In addition, the system has 60,676 members from Ukraine, 13,417 more than in January 2022, before the start of the war waged in the country by Russia.
Most of the workers from Ukraine who work in Spain, close to 90%, are salaried and 10% are self-employed.

FOREIGN MEMBERS INCREASE 15% IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY IN 2022
According to data from the Ministry, all the autonomous communities increased their number of foreign workers in 2022 compared to the previous year.
The greatest annual increases in the average affiliation of foreigners, in absolute terms, occurred in Catalonia (+50,454 contributors), Madrid (+42,184), the Valencian Community (+22,963) and Andalusia (+18,144).
In relative values, the most significant increases in the average affiliation of foreigners in 2022, in double digits, occurred in the Canary Islands (+12.1%), the Basque Country (+11.4%), Cantabria (+11.1% ) and Galicia (+10.8%).
By regimes, the majority of foreigners fall under the General Regime, which closed 2022 with 2,050,132 foreign affiliates, 83.3% of the total and 9% more than in 2021.
For its part, the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA) ended the year with 406,313 foreign contributors, 5.2% more than in 2021. Of these, 15.3% are Chinese, followed by Romanians (11, 1%) and Italians (8.8%).
Within the General Regime, the sectors that gained the most foreign contributors in 2022, in relative values, were the supply of electricity and gas (+26.8%); information and communications (+25%); professional, scientific and technical activities (+17.2%); artistic and entertainment activities (+16.3%), and hospitality (+15.2%).
Only the Special Agrarian System (which falls under the General Regime) lost foreign affiliates in 2022, registering 2.6% fewer contributors than in 2021. The Household, for its part, added 1.2% more foreign.
