Arona will attend the main tourist fair in Spain, Fitur, which will take place between tomorrow and Sunday, promoting three main axes: the renovation and requalification of the accommodation plant, the digital transformation and sustainability with concrete actions, such as the expansion of the Malpaís de Rasca Special Nature Reserve, which is already in front of the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
To this we must add the investments planned by the Public Administrations for the improvement of public space; the promotion of major national and international sporting events, as well as others of a cultural nature, such as Arona SOS Atlántico, which has already established itself as an event of international interest, after making the leap to different European cities, such as Paris.
Both the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena, and the Councilor for Tourism, José Alberto Delgado; the head of the Sports area, Francisco Marichal, and the Fiestas area, Raquel García, will present the different strategic axes of the southern municipality in a fair focused on the national market, which in 2019, the last of the pandemic, saw the arrival of 173,000 visitors.
Over the last few years, up to eight accommodation establishments in Arona have been renovated, or work has begun, which results in the requalification of the offer without consuming new land. To this we must add important partial renovations and the creation of a new offer of beach clubs and leisure terraces. Regarding the digital transformation, the investment of 2.2 million euros has already been awarded and work is about to begin, with June of this year to finish the process.
As regards public investment to improve the tourist area, two million euros have been transferred by the State for the regeneration of Los Cristianos Bay and Los Tarajales beach. By the Council of Tenerifethe Arona coastal path, the adaptation of the Las Vistas promenade or the Noelia Afonso street reform project have been included in the 2023 budgets.
In addition, the State has awarded works worth sixty million euros, to which another twenty will have to be added, for the municipal sanitation system, which will purify the waters of the Arona-East area and prevent discharges onto the coast in areas like Las Galletas or Palm-Mar.
