The Granadilla de Abona City Council confirmed yesterday that it has held meetings, both last Friday and yesterday, with “all the parties and administrations involved” to solve the “major structural problems” suffered by the Infant Education Center and Granadilla de Abona Elementary, whose damages have been denounced by the Association of Student Families, warning of “lack of security” and “risk of injury”.

Specifically, the group of fathers and mothers regrets, among other deficiencies, the existence of a “removable and flimsy” fence, without a sign that warns of the danger that it can mean for students. He also complains about the collapse of a wall and the rust that can be seen in the sports facilities and, above all, about the existence of a well covered by some wooden planks.

The Association of Student Families has also denounced the effects of the rains, with “flooded classrooms due to leaks from the roof”, for which it warns that winter can cause illness among students.

The Department of Education pointed out yesterday that, as they are structural problems, among which it cited the forging of the septic tank, these cannot be solved with maintenance works and that, therefore, “they are not works of direct competence” of the City Council . In addition, he recalled that the roofs of the center are covered with uralite sheets and that the Government of the Canary Islands has launched a plan to remove them from all the centers of the Archipelago. “It is a historical demand and it is at the expense of their withdrawal,” stressed the City Council.

The Consistory also pointed out that the gym was robbed last October and the damages are covered by the Ministry of Education insurance, the amount of which has already been paid to the school.
