Los Realejos celebrates its third Vincentian Year

The Realejos will celebrate in this 2023 its Third Vincentian Yearrecognized by the ecclesiastical authorities of Rome What jubilee year. The royal mayor, Adolfo González (PP)presented this religious celebration this Friday, together with the Councilor for Fiestas, Historical Heritage and Tourism, Isabel Socorro (PP); the parish priest of the parish communities of Realejo Bajo, Marcos Antonio Garcia Luisand the president of the San Vicente Festival Commission, Maria Dolores Padilla. This year also commemorates the 414th anniversary of the renewal of the vote of the royal people to their co-patron Saint Vicente Mártir by the end of the call Plague of Landres. When the name day of January 22 falls on a Sunday, in honor of Saint Vincent, it is considered a Vincentian Year.

The anniversary of this 2023 acquires greater relevance and, therefore, the image of Saint Vincent Martyrin addition to receiving the public renewal of the royal voteas usual every January 22, will visit the mother parish of Our Lady of La Concepciónon Thursday, January 26, and will make an extraordinary outing to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, on Saturday, January 28. On Sunday, January 29, he will return to his hermitage after a solemn mass officiated by the bishop of the Diocese of Nivariense. Bernardo Alvarez, in the church of La Concepción. Today, at 8:00 p.m., in the Hermitage of San Vicente itself, a proclamation of the festivity will be offered by the local historian Manuel Jesus Hernandez Gonzalez.

After the special commemoration of the year 2009, coinciding with the fourth centenary of this tradition, it was decided to declare Vincentian Year for those later in which January 22 fell on a Sunday, succeeding in this way in 2012, in 2017 and in the 2023 that concerns us. This special religious significance implies in this year the aforementioned ascent of the holy image to the parish of Our Lady of La Concepcióna solemn triduum between the 26th and its octave on January 29, and a special religious celebration in honor of Saint Vincent on the 22nd of every month this year. The movements of the calendar will make the coincidence on Sunday will not be repeated until 2033.

The aforementioned parish community entrusted itself during the recent pandemic to the images of San Vicente and Nuestra Señora del Carmen, for which reason this extraordinary visit of the image of the co-patron to the Honorary and Perpetual Mayor of Villa de The Realejos. Among the known historical antecedents of a similar transfer we must go back to the beginning of the 19th century to a special visit of the image of San Vicente Mártir to the local convents and to the so-called ‘Victory Festival’at the end of the Civil War in 1939, where a procession with all the images of the parish was also carried out.
